Friend of mine reperposed an old bookcase. No bottoms allow nesting and animals will be able to stay on dirt

Ought to work just fine. Might not be the most durable, but if they don't last long you're not out much!

I do like the idea of handles,,, I’ve built quite a few different coon and mink boxes and never thought about putting a handle on them for easy carrying.

They look good although the red color could stand out to thieves

And surely not as effective as blue!

No issue with thieves on his 1000 acreas.

Does blue really help?

Does color really make a difference in reaction? I'm using buckets for coon.

More to carry. I'm missing something. Are coons harder to catch in other states?

I like to make them with bottoms. Then I set them at a 45-degree angle. It makes it so much easier for the coon to stick its head in the box.

I've never got the point of a coon box. I figure it'd be easier to get a coon to work a DP than stick his head through a Conibear. Now, I can understand marten and fisher boxes. On the coons, though, just keep it simple.

Don't wanna deal with dispatch or don't want a low coon but no where to just plop a coni in retail or something

I do see their worth where you don't want to dispatch. That is the one nice thing about a Conibear.

i like the handles course i say that every year Here we have extended checks for lethal sets or we did if the weather is cold so nothing slips as far as carrying i doubt many walk far from the truck I like beavs idea shoul help with reach ins

I used them quite a bit on a golf course I use to trap in the middle of a city. Management didn’t want golfers seeing coons in foot holds. The whole area was sand on top of shale along a river. There was only two spots where I could use drowning rigs, and had to use three rr plates to get enough weight on the shale. Came up with boxes that caught the coons. I would cover the box/trap with sycamore leaves, a caught coon would move at least a little bit, causing the leaves to settle on the coon and help camouflage the catch from the golfers.

I also used them close to roads to avoid theft.

You have no idea how many coon walk by your DPs. But they are a useful tool.

I ran 250 coon boxes in the spring for eight years. One spring I ran two dozen DPs staked just out of reach from thee boxes. Both were baited the same and only once did I catch a coon in a DP at those sets. As far as carrying them goes, I set them just off the atv trail far enough I can get by them. I rode past and never stopped to check. First load of the year headed out to be set.
