Just out of curiosity,, but can anyone here still smoke in bars in your state?? Didn’t know if this is the whole United States thing or if there are exceptions.
Popped into my head as I was heading home from work and saw a bunch of people outside the bar smoking. I smoked my last cigarette in 2009.. one of the best decisions I ever made. I was a very heavy smoker,,, 3 packs a day, unfiltered. I knew I was headed down a very bad road and I got my mind right and by gosh , I beat the nicotine demon.

In Pa, a bar can permit smoking if food sales account for less than 20% of its gross sales. Private clubs, like the Moose, Legion, and VFW can allow smoking, if the membership approves. The international rules for the Moose changed a few years ago. They do not allow smoking. An individual lodge can apply for an exemption, but it is rarely given. Our legion voted 2 years ago to not allow smoking. Their sales dropped dramatically and they brought it back. We do have one "non club" bar in town that allows smoking. I'm not sure how they get around the food sales thing. I'm guessing creative book keeping.

I will tell you guys a funny but true story. I was hospitalized for kidney stones and the hospital was smoke free,,, I was needing a smoke in the worst way,,, So I grabbed a cigarette and went into the bathroom with the vent on,,, figured the cigarette smoke would go on out and I’d use the industrial spray in the bathroom to mask it… wellllllll, that didn’t work out. And the nurse who caught me DID indeed have a mustache,,, wasn’t a dude.. I never did get the pretty nurses when I was in the hospital.

not legally
some bars do anyway want to smoke drop a dollar in the jar for the next fine it is a 100 dollar fine for the bar not making a reasonable attempt to keep people from smoking. reasonable is debatable
some bars have smoking huts outside
it is a minority of bars that "allow" indoor smoking.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

In Spokane Washington I saw booths outdoors where smokers could go in to smoke. Makes no sense but it is Washington. Casper Wyoming had a restaurant with a smoking section and nonsmoking section but no wall separating them. Silly.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I believe smoking on bars is what kept me from becoming a bar fly. I never have been a smoker, and didn't like smelling like that after a night out. Now that there's no smoking in bars, I find myself spending more time in them.

A lot of bars and restaurants complained but when it all shook out, I think their business actually went up.
While that may be true of restaurants, I certainly don't believe that is true of bars. I lived in IL when the no-smoking thing passed there. Before that we went to the bar at least once a week if not twice. I remember the first summer after it passed, you'd go there and there would be 20 people on the back porch where you could smoke and 2-3 inside. I have zero desire to go somewhere to drink that I can't smoke at the same time, but we stopped in one day in winter.... I think we were looking for someone. When on a normal winter evening there would have been 15-20 folks there.... there were only 4... soon after that the owners sold the place. I have no idea if it's still open today or not.
