Our small village post office window has been closed for months due to a shortage of staff
It is to open back up today to "normal operating hours" which is 10-2:00 M-F and 12-2 on Saturday. The PO window in the county seat 6 miles away is closed from 12:00-1:30 for lunch with two employees sitting in the back. Argh

Sounds like all of our small town offices. Very limited hours, often closed for lunch.

The majority of folks who take their lunch to work sit in the back to eat. You expect them to wait on you during their lunch break?
Easiest way to remedy this is get a job at the post office.

It seems to me a pretty simple fix. If you know the hours that they are open, only go during those hours. If you know when lunch time is, don’t go during lunch time.

Sounds like our little post office. Everyone seems to know it and it doesn't cause much of an issue. The lobby is almost always open. We only get mail through our PO box.

Who still gets mail?

We get something every other day and it's usually sales flayers or political bs.

USPS / Govt needs to admit defeat and go to twice a week delivery and even then, subcontract out to a private corp.

I have lived in two small NC towns that did not offer mail delivery. In the last village, it was 7 miles to the Post Office. Always thought I deserved a mileage deduction for the round trip to the PO.

I get lots of mail most days thats not junk.

Get mail everyday except Sunday. Rural delivery. As far out in the sticks as I know. Gas bill, electric bill, trapping magazines, bank statements...the list goes on.

Then there's all the packages from trapping supplies to carburetors.

Birthday, anniversary, Wedding invites, family reunions Christmas cards....

I get two different Pennysavers by mail a month

I still write letters to family members and they write letters back (and lost art form).

Not all people text, email and do their banking online.

And like you said, different kinds of junk mail but not much. More; the closer it gets to voting time.

USPS lost $9.5 and $9 billion the past 2 years.

Amazon is the only thing keeping them afloat.

I don't hate the Postal Service, it's just another example of govt miss spending.
