I remember as a kid wanting to go to Alaska and file a homestead and being so disappointed when I found out they had ended homesteading. For some reason I thought it was a few years later than they did. Or I didnt hear about it for a few years. Because I would have only been 7 back in 86.

The State of Alaska had a homesite program that lasted into the 90's. I think the mental trust land fiasco ended that. Now it has been replaced by the remote recreational property program.

The latest article about our very own White17 even cropped up down here in rural Oregon. Takes me back to a time when Ken was trying to keep members of this forum updated on something or another during trapping season from his cabin by satphone to ol'Blister, (God bless that woman!), who then translated it here, but then "they" went dark for a few days. We didn't know what to do or what happened, but eventually Barb let us know Ken had severely hurt his back, and was bed-ridden in the cabin, barely able to load wood into the stove, and all were worried he had enough wood in the cabin to get through what was a brutally cold snap.
i miss those times, when many members now gone would re-kindle stories and experiences of earlier days.
And I miss ol'Blister. Both on here and in person. (For those that don't know, she is indeed still kickin, and is the un-disputed Better Half of an amazing duo).

Yes indeed I also enjoyed reading what Ol' Blister and Ken would post on here then Pete would chime in and then things got interesting .

It makes one wonder what family gatherings are like ha ha ! For me the latest story on Ken I received was published in India that I sent to Ken of all places so they are international stars who grace us with their company !

Folks like Ken and Barb are what makes T man interesting that's for sure !

It's been great to become friends with Ken and Barb over the the past few years. They sure don't come any tougher than Ken and Barb won't let you leave hungry!!
