I’ve heard it is used extensively in canine baits. Have no idea if it works for marten. I’m guessing it would be mild and as such may not be a big draw to marten, as compared to castor or sac oil.

Some bear hunters pay a premium for that stuff. Right now it has one of the best effort/reward ratios in the trapping world…..lol I’ve got a few pails but rarely use it. It freezes right away and I won’t cut it with any kind of antifreeze..

It freezes right away and I won’t cut it with any kind of antifreeze.. I make my tail oil and draw of the top oil. I then take the top oil and pour it off at 20° F I get a final product that does not freeze but can gel at really low temps

I use it in my marten lure.
Shakey, I use it straight, and it gels up pretty quickly, but down to -20F (about as cold as I've used it, maybe a little colder) it is still the consistency of toothpaste and easily squeezeable. You sure you are talking about the pure oil and not the nasty white, watery stuff? The black oil that’s left on top. I didn’t fool around with it too much in freezing temp though. I got it in a plastic urine bottle with the flip up squirt cap. Maybe I’ll add a bit of that black honey into my marten batch.

I put a little oil in with tainted, stopped meat.it does not homogenize and will rise to the top but if you mix the jar a little it smooths things out. I’ve had success with the product Im making for myself.
I use beaver flashings oil the same way and it’s a little thicker.

Les, tell us more about the beaver fleshing oil, how made , how used All I did was stretch a red mechanics rag over a 4 1/2 gallon plaster pail and set it aside for a year or two in my greenhouse…there will be come a pink oil on top but over time that color will change. Don’t stack these anywhere that bears might take notice…. Just mix a little oil with tainted meat because that’s what I had…. Ps…I did snap a lid down over that rag…
