I've got a buddy who is dealing with some nuisance squirrels on his property. They have chewed wires on two vehicles now resulting in significant repair costs. He has tried live traps with no success and rat traps - they just stole the bait. I suggested 110's on the trees they are using with a peanut butter coated marshmallow on the trigger but this also hasn't been sucessful. I haven't posted on here in years (!) but I told him I would hop on and see what other suggestions you folks might have. Thanks in advance!

there was a good article about a 2x4 on edge with 110s mounted on it and wrap the trigger with gauze or fabric and work peanut butter or lard and peanut butter into the fabric or gauze. that lined them up right to take the hit perfect on the back of the neck.

I have thought about running a bird feeder on a stand made of 2x4 on edge at the 45* angle put pans on them and wire them to not go off and let the squirrel come eat the feed then take the wires off so they fire when they cross through

anyway I know others here have had success with 110 mounted in run ways.

I got one in a Victor #1 long spring in a run way.

got to get that trigger set light enough they set them off.

in WI it is limited to land owner or agent for nuisance as far as I can tell because of limits and seasons on squirrel

others have done run poles between den trees and snares also to good effect some posts here on that as well.

I've had good success with a peanut in the shell threaded onto the triggers, but that will also catch cardinals and bluejays so not recommending that., but one of the posters claimed to drill holes in a walnut and put the triggers through the holes and that only caught squirrels.
not many squirrels will refuse a nut!, lol
A pellet rifle works real good too!.

Thanks everyone. He got one so far tonight in a 110 baited with a marshmallow/peanut butter on the trigger. He is a landowner, so no issues with WI regs. .22 is an option for the weekend when there is more time

I occasionally have issues with squirrels.
I use a lager old Havahart trap baited with salted peanuts mixed with a very coarse salt.
My thought is they like the salt more than just the nuts.

I caught 7 this spring by my workshop which is well away from the nearest tree.
They seem to travel more in April, May and June,
The rest of the year they stay in the woods pretty much.

Just bait them for a few days with a small pile of shelled corn. Wait till there's 3,4 or 5 eating then a open choke 12 gauge, 7 1/2 shot will do the trick. Personally, I have the time so I just use a .22 pellet gun.

I took a dried corn cob and cut into one inch rings then just stuck it onto the triggers on a 110. Downside is it caught some birds.

Ive caught several gray squirrels in muskrat colony traps using peanuts,put one just inside doors then the rest i the middle.Evan caught a double once.
