I do think white marlin's "plan" is less realistic than mine. I believe some type of economic collapse is more plausible than tariffs spurring economic growth. Economic growth occurs when free trade is allowed to flourish. Now, there is a flip side to that as well.... unchecked economic growth will lead to higher inflation. Perhaps that short-term pain marlin seems to want could come in the form of changing the target rate of inflation? Maybe instead of a 2% goal it should be increased to, say, 4%? That would allow for more economic growth, but the "average people" sure wouldn't like it. (P.S.- this is NOT what I think should be done, to be clear).

Now, in a true free market capitalist system without any government interference, this all would naturally work itself out. But, as we all know, that IS unrealistic.
