Has anyone tried making a lure base out of rotted down skunk meat w/emptied pods? Hopping into this as a hobby, primarily looking to experiment… I know oysters and fish are great in both baits and lures, what about bull frogs?

I know of one commercially produced lure that is rotted down skunk carcasses. Not sure if the pods are left on them but I would think they could only improve the base end product. If you do this, be sure you leave as much of the fat from the skunk on the carcass. I would also recommend removing the guts,head,tailbone and feet. You sould end up with a pretty fair start of a base product. The skys the limit after that. Good luck!

Remember reading somewhere though that putting a whole skunk in a gallon jar then burying it for a year would produce a liquid that was an effective fox/coyote lure. I think I would leave the lid a little loose to allow gas to escape.

I've got a little project in the works with the flesh of a snapping turtle. It's pretty well turned into a dark liquid. Now I've got to figure out what I want to do with it. All suggestions are welcome.

Test the base and see how much attraction it has. Got to know that to know if its worth pursuing.

That makes perfect sense. I just gave my blue heeler a little whiff of the turtle juice, he went into roll mode. But it doesn't take much for him to do that.

Burying it in the ground makes me think of a slow rot, I'll have to try this.

My whole thought process behind the bullfrogs was more of a curiosity aspect, I'm trying to find something that promotes a looping reaction in coyotes. Have you tried using the turtle juice as an additive to a rotted down meat base?

I got a couple of baits I need to do the same thing with, I've been waiting for colder weather to study it up in the bush. Aiming for late September and October.
