Went for a walk on part of my land that I don’t go on very often. This area is a bedding area and I stay out of it.

To my absolute amazement, I found someone has hung a lock on stand complete with screw in steps on my land! And it’s been there for at least a couple years!! I am surrounded by private property and I suspect it’s the guy that leases the land that abuts mine. The next time he goes to hunt it, he’s going to find himself with one less tree stand than he thought he had! I can’t wait till he knocks on my door looking for it!!

It takes a lot of balls to hang a stand on someone else’s land and leave it there!

I've found tree stands before, and a small pot growing patch some kids put in, and if you don't live on the land you can figure anything of value is stolen....

You can live ther and have issues with trespassing. Tire tracks knocking down vegetation, geinsing
, and mushroom hunters, curious people and hunter to name a few Years ago I found what looked like a single small( under 8") pot plant when I was mowing one spring. Not 100% sure it was but it got cut along with the grass along the paths I keep cut. I figured somone rolling one may have flipped out a seed. But it may have been a different plant that just has similar shaped leafs.

they started growing hemp here for cbd and other stuff , possibly the most invasive weed ever , we used to get some ditch weed/water hemp . but they hadn't really grown it commercially since the Korean war . my grandpa used to grow it and it was all around his farm at some point during WWII they needed it for all the rope.

the new stuff is for hemp fiber and cbd production as I understand it

maybe been 7 years since they started growing it here , they do a rotation here and there

now if don't plant anything in a field it will be hemp from edge to edge and every unmowed ditch

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I didnt know hem was that prolific and invasive. About 5 miles away there was a place growing it under limited special permits. Im not sure if he still does. Seems like I heard they changed or pulled the permits causing him large losses. But its not something thet involved me so never paid much attention to it.

I see it as soon as hunting season starts. Mostly out of state hunters some that lease and some that don't. Like someone said why they hang or setup a blind in bedding area is really a rookie in the hunting world. Lol I see that all the time and their success rate goes to zero when they do that.

My brother and I started buying our properties in 1985 for hunting. Trespassing stories are to numerous with a couple sketchy ones. Vandalism, stolen property, nephew was 12 got kicked out of his stand on our land, threats, jealousy. It is better now, we developed quite the reputation, lol.

Maybe he just goes in there once in awhile to chase them over to his property.

I hunted a property once where a river had changed course and two landowners both claimed the same property. One stole a ladder of mine and took it home. I saw it when I dumped his trash and it went home with me on top of the garbage truck.

Had that happen once on a lease. Day before opening day I removed bottom 4 steps. Didn't take the stand. I was sitting 3 trees over in a stand when guy showed up and started cussing . Think he had to change his pants when he stopped running back across the property line. 2,000 lumen flashlight in the face unexpectedly makes a feller jump. Told him not to be back..

My brother had property up in northern BC. The common rule of etiquette was if you stayed at someone's cabin you replace anything you used...ie firewood, etc. It started getting out of hand when city folks with skidoos and four wheelers started coming in and trashing everything. Not only was his firewood not replaced but they stole the wood stove!

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Take the stand and climbers. If they think they are in the right they will come looking for it. Then you can find out who it is and do something else at that time. If they know they are wrong you'll never see them.

Doubt it. His disciples don't trespass......since that stand may have been there for a couple years, it's no longer a bedding area. Too much pressure.

My cousin had an outfitter hang a stand and place a camera on a corn pile which is illegal in this state . He contacted the game warden and the investigation started and lo and behold the outfitter and judge had the same last name and nothing was done . My controls the game warden as far as he was concerned you can’t write a ticket for trespassing in the state of Illinois anymore

Speak to the owner who leases the property. You may get ol’ boy thrown out of there. I’’m assuming your boundaries are well posted?

I’d also consider putting a posted sign on the tree with your contact info and a written note for the person who owns the stand to call you directly. You’ll probably never hear from him, but if you do you can explain all of the reasons that him crossing your line will never happen again.
