Planted a plot screen mix (Tecomate mix of Egyptian wheat, pearl millet, & sorghum) in front of a three very exposed stands back in June. It struggled in this sugar sand during a couple stretches of no rain, but regular rains at the end of summer brought it on up to satisfactory height to serve it's purpose.

Can enter and exit stand without being seen. I've planted pure stands of Egyptian wheat (that's the tallest in the pic) in the past but the mix creates some low and mid-height cover. Plus the turkeys will utilize all of the seed heads when it falls over in late winter....or I mow it down after deer season.

Anybody else plant this for same purpose.

I have a mowed trail that comes in behind the stand & thru the pines. Totally hidden entry/exit this fall. Many pre-dawn and post-dusk days the 200 yard long x 40 yd wide plot at this stand has several deer in it.....that I don't like alerting to my presence.

All of my plots have a minimum of 10 yds of cover around the edges. Most is natural growth that rarely gets cut back unless it starts to get too tall and thin out. Creates edge cover and allows me to get in /out of stands. Plots were designed for the most consistent winds which also helps to get bucks out of the cutovers to look versus just being able to scent check from the cover.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pics on my phone right now.

Getting brassicas and cereal rye in this weekend. About a week behind!

Looks good Mr. Swamp.

I need to maintain that natural transition edge on my larger plots. Definitely cheaper.

I can't plant the rye, oats, crimson, and brassicas until late September or 1st week of Oct. Way to hot here yet.

I just mowed the fall plots last week. About to spray them in a few days.

Our bow season opens this coming Saturday. But, dang...it is HOT!!!

Plus, timber rattler mating season is underway. Was gonna do a quick scout of a live oak hammock a few days ago. Had on shorts and slip on loafer shoes. Walked about 30 yds from my truck down a recently mowed trail and intercepted this rascal (glad I had mowed that grassy firebreak a few days b4 or I would not have seen Ol' No Shoulders.)

Once again.....the rattler WAS harmed b4 the pic was taken. Glock .40....head gone.

Since I turned 69 I have grounded myself. Rather than plant for camo, this year I acquired a bunch of 2" PVC cut 2 feet long. Pound them around my stand and fill with corn shocks. Zip tie to stiffen them up or they will fall over when they dry. I also use a lot of Green oak branches that wont drop leaves when they dry. Tied a piece of paracord above blind and hung oaks upside down from them. Try it.

Nothing wrong with a well concealed ground blind in the right spot!!!

Ground blinds give me the heebie-jeebies (if they have been in place for a while).....see my pic above with that headless rattler.

They like nice, roomy, dark "blinds" to crawl into during early fall. The ground blind-snake stories I've heard from hunters in this area over the years...oh my!
