A West Virginia state conservation employee got busted poaching a huge buck, and now it appears they are covering it up. Court records show Geoffrey Brinker pleaded no contest May 8 to three wildlife violations. Failing to obtain the required deer tag, illegal possession of wildlife, and failing to electronically register the deer. Brinker works for the West Virginia Conservation Agency. Multiple Sources familiar with the case tell me he paid roughly $1,000 in the case.
Here’s where this gets really interesting. Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the case have told me the buck measured right at 20 inch inside spread. Under West Virginia law, a buck that size falls into the highest enhanced replacement-cost category. That should have landed him a $10,500 fine. So why does the information I’m receiving indicate he paid only around $1,000? I have emailed the West Virginia DNR asking for an explanation and have not received a response. At this point, it raises a serious question. Was this case handled differently because the hunter worked for a state conservation agency?

Sounds like every other political mis-doing that goes off into the sunset never to be heard from again.

Maybe he was testing it for CWD and thus was justified in killing it with no license

I'm sure it was acting funny and looked sickly. He was just doing his job for goodness sake!!
