How many traps are to many in a 50 acre field? I've trapped this same field for many years and have caught coyotes in three different spots. So if I put 2 traps at each spot would that be too much? If not should I use different lures and bait at each place?

I trap a 47ac place and there are times I have as many as 8 out.

Put traps where you think you will catch a coyote and don't worry about the total number

Depends on the character of the field.

I'd venture to guess it depends most on coyote density where you are at, # of travel ways to get them there, and number of frequent flyers coming through.

No way to tell. As you learn more about your quarry's life history, habitat, average age etc., you will know how many traps to use to harvest the animals this area provides for your time element. Really a 100+ acre fields with multiple season catches are too small to put a # on traps per location. Experience is your best guide along with an awareness of yearly changes in Food, Cover, and Water (Habitat) around this field/area. No substitute for your boot leather and awareness of spring, summer, fall and winter conditions that directly influence seasonal wildlife (coyote) movements and populations. More sign = more traps, just keep track through the "Non Harvest" times while your "fur crop" developes to get an idea. More than you wanted - sorry about that. ...........................the mike

Depends on your goal. If that is the only place you trap then more than a couple is fine, but if you get too carried away with sets and lures you are going to educate a lot of coyotes. If you are trying to rack up some numbers and have plenty of land to trap, then 2 traps is plenty. 2 at your best spot, with always one being a fresh set not a remake.
