Anyone ever break a lighter shock springs? I have some sleepy creek shock springs I plan to use on long chains and cables when I anchor to a tree because of ground conditions. Cable and chains are 10 feet. The springs are rated at 53lbs. PIT suggests using a 75 pound spring for long chains. Curious if anyone thinks I’ll have issues with using a lighter spring on long chains or just won’t work quite as good. I feel like it will be okay but figured maybe someone had a different experience. Using on coyotes and bobcats.

The Northwoods springs they put on 1.75 traps would often be stretched and not close back up when you caught a coyote in them. I would just take them off and not replace them.

As Warrior said, they’ll just bottom out. If they break in compression, it’s all about seriously substandard metallurgy, aka “junk”!

Hey, ordered my first shock springs & I assumed you dye/wax/dip the em as you would anything else. Is this a correct assumption?

Yup, be like the chain breaking. The j hooks will open long before that though.
