Good evening. Will be traveling October around the Lower 48 to church that support our mission church in the village I live in, giving a report on the ministry, and preaching a "Message with a Moose Antler". I am accompanied by a 20 year old Yupik man from our village of Saint Mary’s, AK, his first time away from Alaska.I want him to eat some good local food wherever we go. Not interested in 5 star restaurants, just one or two good local joints a week to treat him to, something with the local culture preferably. Lord knows, so many Yupik have treated me to their soul food over the years, like whale, seal, blackfish, swan eggs, etcetera, cooked in many different ways, on this trip I want to treat him twice a week to foods that will blow his mind with new flavors. We'll mostly be cooking our own meals as we travel to save money, but when we do go to a restaurant, I want it to be memorable for him.
We'll be in Dwight, IL; Arlington, TX; Salisbury, Richfield, Kannapolis, Ballards Crossroads, Connellys Springs, Rockwell, and Reidsville, NC; Easley, SC; Edinburg, and Norfolk, VA; McConnellsburg, PA. Going to be doing a little rockhounding and fishing along the way. Hopefully, I can give him some good memories in return for all the good ones I have from the Yupik people and country. I hope to go on a boiled peanut purge while we are in NC, introduce him to boiled peanuts purchased from roadside stands. Are there any other crops that will be just harvested in any of these localities? When we cook in the motel rooms or camps we make, I want as much fresh vegetables and fruit for him to experience as possible.
