3 days after planting. Cultipacking & good rain is the key.....which is a blessing from God!

Ol' Peter Cottontail says he is very appreciative of the rye and oats.

I got a slight jump on ya Mr. Swamp. This is a small sampling of my brassica / cereal Rye plots. Right around 6 acres in all between 5 plots. Can’t go wrong with that cultipacker.

Add in another 3 acres across those plots of planted crab apple, crab pear, persimmon, chestnut and various other hard mast trees.

Reckon I’m ‘cheating’ though…

Believe I had described letting natural borders around the plots grow up instead of planting E Wheat or the like. This is an example. Cutover edge with a border, hard mast trees, another natural border and then food plot. TONS of edge cover for game.

Man, that all really depends… eek

If you can stay away from NOVA or Richmond, I’d feel inclined to agree with you. Those few spots in the whole state is why we trend Blue.

Wound our way down to Yorktown to visit family...Michigan is not much different, great resources but outnumbered by a few big cities. Darn shame....

Gunnleg,
Plot looks fantastic. Can't do them early here...even the brassicas. Army worms will destroy it.

You are spot on with the EDGE!!

I dont think my plots will ever look like your's. Deer population and amount of plots I have available just don't jive. Ive got to kill some does!!

Thank ya Mr. Swamp. I’m pretty fortunate with the soil here. Holds moisture pretty well. Not too sandy and not to much clay.

Good luck on the does! I’m gonna aim to stick a few starting tomorrow night. Hard mast is fairly spotty this year, so they’re still on my beans pretty heavy.

I give back every time I kill a deer. It leaves more food for the rest of them.

I don't do any food plots on my place, but it's clear that those of you that do sure enjoy the process.

Wife thinks this is the year when the apocalypse happens so I planted turnips, rutabegas, beets and radishes. The trees in the back are chestnuts and the ones on the right are sawtooth oak. Makes a pretty food plot!
