Ive been trying making my own Deer Blocks. Corn, sweet feed, monocalcium phosphate , molasses dry and liquid, syrup, mineral salt, SF seeds.. Mixed and put in bread pans and larger alum pans. Packed and cooked on the Weber at 325 for 1.5 hours. Problem is they don't get hard like a store bought block. They try to harden but fail. Gone in 2 days. Any ideas, short of adding cement?

Try grinding everything up fine.
Line the bottom of your pan with parchment paper and press the mixture down
A bunt cake pan would probably work best

What is getting hard? None of your ingredients seem like they will melt and cool hard. I have no experience making deer blocks but salt gets really hard when moisture is added and removed, sugar as mentioned melts and cools hard, flour makes cookies really hard might try some whole wheat flour, or corn meal moistened and pressed might work. Also how are you pressing them? Might want to make a press with threaded rod, nuts on a wooden frame you can get a wrench on and a wood block to fit the multiple pan sizes you have, really crank them tight before heating. I dont know just spit balling here

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

More liquid molasses (sugar) and cook longer. I lived close to a cattle tub manufacturer and you could always smell the days they were cooking the molasses tubs. I am guessing they were cooked up in big batches and hot poured into the tubs for the 200 pounders as the tubs were all plastic. Karo syrup might be worth trying in addition to more liquid molasses.

You can buy them premade? Who knew? Thanks Karen 1 thru 5. They are about 19-25$ here. Making them is less than half that! Ill try the more sugar and heat.

Why I said buy them AFTER season. 5-7 bucks. Besides if they only last 2 days if you divide days by dollars the store bought are still cheaper. If Store bought last 30 days your going to need 15 of yours. If you can make yours for 1.26 then you will break even. Like I said Do the math.
Not hard to figure
