Laminating and base plating is a piece of cake compared to welding chew quards on. My hat is off to the trap mod people. Formed and welded these chew guards on some #2 double longsprings . We will see how they improve preformance on coons, ect. Makes the already modded trap seem more attractive. Heres a couple of pics. Ready for those ($ 50.00 coons) LOL Cletis

I wonder it you could just use baseplates and maybe cut them down a little

Cletis The mod looks great. One thing I can't tell from your photo is how the guard is place. I have found they work best set flush to the outside of the main jaw. The slight recess gives you a small space between the guards when the trap is closed. This works like and off set and lets the main jaw close farther. JMTCW

cletis, what type of rod did ya use I used 20 penny nail which are about 3/16 of an inche. I bent them on a jig that I made to form baseplates. Longear it looks like you were able to use straight guards on whats looks like a 1 1/2 montgomery or the new montana. I had to use a formed guard to clear the pivot portion of the pan. Macthediver the guard wouldn't clear the pivot portion of the pan positioned at the outside of the jaw, had to adjust to the inner position, still ended up 1/8 to 3/16 from edge which should give me ample bite with the edge of jaw. Some of the welds much to my dismay came to the edge of the jaw which makes the guard look flush. Have a few more 1 1/2 s to reform the jaws and add a new second spring. Cletis

They are 1.5's but you have to be careful about thet pan clearance. And like Mac said put they away from where the jaws close. It was fun moding these traps but I might have gone a little overboard on the baseplates. Later longear

I was thinking you need to make some type of jig similar to hold that style in place as well, shouldn't be too hard to design if someone would put their little pea-brain to work on it.... ~ADC~
