We’ll import it from other countries as we did during the miner strike and the potash will move up the Mississippi instead of south on rail.

Don't tell our neighbors to the north that, if they cut us off we will all starve to death.

Haha, not really. I like the sarcasm. You don’t need corn fields to ensure you don’t starve. But your farmers won’t love higher inputs. In all honesty, it’s great you support country but you both have a lot to learn on what you do in fact need and what you in fact do not.

Don’t believe me, just look it up.

This is a funny thread. I’m impressed with the pride we all have in our countries. Good on you folks.

Is it as astounding as thinking Israel was going to be the answer to your potash? lol

Maybe you can get it from Belarus, Russia or China , the next three biggest producers?

I’m sure the freight cost will be nice, so will the tariffs. Haha I mean I realize it’ll cost us more to move it to BC or the Atlantic coast to ship overseas but let’s not pretend someone won’t buy it or that you won’t have to buy it from somebody.

I just read about how Mexico as well as us recently in the past few days turned down US orders for steel. I know, I know you don’t need it. ( but you import it) Better ramp up production then because 2 people you get from just said no.

Evan the South Dakota Farmers Union “worries about permanent damage to the states to commodities” over the tariff thing. I’m sure the article is just some left leaning fake news though.

It’s about ac trade deficit and nothing more. Anything else is smoke and mirrors.

The tariffs won't end up being applied to Canada and Mexico because they will give in to President Trumps demands. The US by far has the upper hand in trade relations. It's not even close.

If Mexico was stupid enough to refuse to give the US potash, the US who supplies 99% of the yellow corn Mexico desperately needs, could have them begging for forgiveness by withholding just that in weeks. Without the US as a trade partner, Mexico would fail.

"Nearly 99 percent of Mexico’s yellow corn imports come from the United States, a trade valued at $5.3 billion in 2023."

Probably but shipping might be more than the tariff.

True. It's rail all the way from the Midwest right into the middle of Mexico. The shipping container doesn't need to be changed.
