Here is a set I like..... did some trial and error with this set, I drill a hole in a fence post near a trail they are using, I like it as an additional set to my blind trail sets. fill the hole with bacon greese, bed trap under the hole and back from the post about 4"...... not a bad way to go for me so far

better add that I was experimenting with this set 2 years ago...... thats the reason there is green grass and poor fur!! I like to try my (new bait for coon) in the spring when there is plenty to eat around, sort of shows effectivness

I dont. But if you have a problem coon I would recommend it.

if i didnt pre-bait i would bother doing it. i can only trap for about 7-10 days so I need coons coming to bait. the only problem with the lid on the bucket is when I pre-bait, would the coon be able to get in and eat it? I think square buckets or wood boxes are a better choice, only problem being wood boxes do not stack.

Oh yea they can get in there and thats the whole idea of pre baiting is to get them used to crawling in the bucket. I have never found the need to pre-bait. When I set them out they produce. Location, Location, Location.

The bottom right picture depicts the setup that I have been using perfectly. I have been inserting a metal screen at the top end of the box which helps me save on bait. I normally use cookies and Marshmellows and they work great. I have used other purchased lures and baits with good success also. In my experience I have never had a problem with dogs in this set up. Could it catch cats, yes it could but dogs I would think would be near impossible. When I cut my notches in the side pieces I make them tight enough to keep my trap in place.

I am no expert and nowhere near a huge numbers guy but my reputation counts in the area that I trap in and I don't need any incidentals. Small community and word of mouth travels quickly.

I saw these in Trapper/Predator caller a few years ago. I've had a some success with them. Wondering if anyone else is doing this to catch coons.

I saw online that some people use bucket sets on the side of a tree and the buckets are upside down. I was wonder what you would use for bait and how would you secure the bait in the bucket (since it is upside down).

Ive done a lot of black bear guiding in Northern Wis. Its been years since I trapped but I had increasingly amount of coon trying to get into my baits which they couldnt until the bear came and left. I see that some of the info shared is the fish oil. I myself started trapping again and have been using anise oil and a few potato chips and a dirthole set but vamped up on some dogproofs and simely am going to spray a shot in each trap and go. It wasnt a albino but two years ago I caught a white fisher using that anise.

CageB got any better pics of that box? Maybe one all cleaned up and a close up? I like the looks of that set. I was talking about the first box you posted, but I like the last one too. Got any dimensions on those? They would be great on the public ground.

whut is the best way to keep coons from messing up the gardens? they like to get into the corn and take alot of it...

There was a similar thread on here just a few days ago. Electric Fence, 12 ga., A barking dog works well also tied next to the garden. Make sure it has shade and water twice a day or just tie it out by the garden during the night hours, come morning put it somewhere comfortable.

Not sure if posted already, get a vanilla waffer soggy an smear it around on a tree, bed trap. Easy. Caught lots of coons with them waffers.
