Hey All,

I have a question for some of the more seasoned beaver trappers. A friend has a small pond that is apparently the current home of some beavers. They have decimated the willow that grow around the pond. He wants them trapped, and I have the equipment to do that, but all the beaver I have trapped have been in open water using castor with mud pies. There is a spot that is still open where I assume the beaver have been getting in and out of the pond. Can you do any good trapping them by setting a 330' or possibly two stacked on a long stabilizer and then fencing off the rest of the open spot with sticks or whatever? I want to take the beaver before it thaws out and they maybe move on.

Is the open water by shore,set a foothold. Do you know where the runs are...330 in the run. Or baited 330 thru the ice.
I prefer snares to take beaver under ice.

I would drop a couple of snares in the hole with a few fresh sticks. It works for me.

Frank,I have set these open spots before.I still use 330s and castor mounds.If you are able,still go with this set up.
Yes you can double stack 330s ,if you are,nt going with castor mounds.

Thank you for the tips. I will get those rascals one way or the other...lol... My first approach may be a castor mound like you are saying, Tom. If that does not work I will try something else. I appreciate the help.

Frank,if you have room,throw up and set,several castor mounds.Get the bulk the first night if you can.

I love pond beaver, even with the ice on. Just have to find the den and any other bank holes, and set 330's in them. The smaller the pond the easier it is.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will set a couple of footholds on drowners and then fence off part of the hole and set a 330. There are two open holes, so I will try both approaches. I am fairly new to beaver trapping, but I sure do like to catch them (like eating them too!) The pond is dinky, but fairly deep. I want to catch as many as I can quickly before they get trap shy on me. I have been unable to do much trapping this year, and am anxious to give the flatails a go.
