I love when people complain about baiting as unethical, but they have a "food plot" It does not require a sharp mind to distinguish the two.

We cannot hunt over bait here in Va and cannot use deer urine as an attractant (only synthetic urine) due to concerns over the spread of CWD. I don't know that it makes any difference, but here is what I do know. Pa recently experienced a 200% increase in CWD year over year in their CWD control areas using these same control techniques. Obviously the folks making wildlife control decisions in Pa don't know what works either because the results of their efforts are dismal. Do you know anything about what prions are and how the work? Short of wiping out the deer population, what method do you think the PA Game Commision should try?

This moron proliferates because appeals to the lowest common denominator. Not unlike others frequently in the news.
He preaches to the choir of hunters and gun owners who think and behave the same way he does in an effort to play hero to them. Most other gun owners and hunter see him as a loud mouthed instigator.

gryhkl, I am no expert on prions but do know they are extremely difficult to destroy. Game management and the control of disease is not my area of expertise. However, I do know that if what you are doing is not working, something else should be tried. Instead, the Pa strategy is to expand the area in which their control attempts are not working. That strategy is obviously doomed to failure. So, wiping out the deer population in the problem area is not a strategy that I would criticize until it is tried and shown to be unsuccessful. I know of nowhere where it has been tried, but I do know that CWD is continuing to expand and is likely to continue to do so unless alternate strategies are tried.
In this instance I agree with Ted when he says the restrictions are based on junk science. That is not meant to support or oppose the restrictions, only to say the basis for their imposition is faulty.

You could look to Wisconsin and how they tried to eradicate the deer in the infected area to control cwd. It didn't work. Same with the baiting ban, but those who wanted to see baiting eliminated are happy. They don't even care when bans violate the law.

Where did the ground get checked for positive prions that tested positive? To the best of my knowledge it was in deer pens.So the first thing should be to kill all the deer in these pens. The game commission no longer has control of the pens but they where the ones that let them get started.
