Would have come in handy this fall as we had a lot more rain. Dirtholes made in clay were full of water

It was. I am talking about a couple, say on on each side toward the top for added dispersal of scent. I will also put a small wad of sheep's wool in before scent/bait. Just trying to improve on the wheel.

I wonder if putting a couple small holes in either side of the pipe an inch or so down would support even better scent dispersal? Winner winner chicken dinner!!!! Pound a pipe in the ground without a hole and pound a pipe in the ground with a hole. Drop a cigarette butt in each one and watch how the smoke disperses. You will see a big difference. Just like opening up the draft in a wood burner.

You guys ever notice the coyotes don't want to step on the hay? I spread the hay out wider than where the trap is placed. Just curious if others see this?

I am going to try this set since it's freeze resistant.
My only question is, if the haylage is cut up with scissors, what are the chances of it blowing off during any type of wind storm? How does everyone combat that issue?
You can't cheat the mountain pilgrim. Mountain's got its own ways.

And you only need one hole, not a couple I would agree, provided the "drainhole" remains above ground. Now if you have ever seen the diagram provided by Mr. Zagger, it depicts the drainhole half way down on a 9-10 inch pipe with 2-3 inches left above ground. Now this may simply be a misrepresentation in the diagram. Thinking so, I reread the recent article in NAFA's IT magazine, but found no answer. This said, then the drainhole should be no more then 3 inches below the top of the pipe. Given i have no experience with this set, I will need to rely on those out there with experience who can actually be of help.

You are correct, only a couple inches sticks out of the ground, and the pipe is not meant to be a visual attractor, it is hidden in a tuft of grass. Do your own test just like I told you and make your own decision. Drop a lit cigarette butt inside a pipe with a hole and one without a hole and observe how the smoke dissipates out of each of them. You will definitely notice a difference. The hole acts just like the draft on a wood stove.
