Remade It today. The peat bedding was fine but the bean chaff covering was froze. But I moved the tire so the trap was on the outside this time.
No tracks In the area but we did find some coyotes tracks on a few other farms we are trapping. Hanging more cable tomorrow.

Not enough snow to really track a coyote yet. Going to hang some cable today. My buddy was hunting yesterday and found where the coyotes had pulled a deer down so will try and set that up today.

I never played with a tire set. But I always thought that a guy should cut the tire in half or at least cut a section of the tire out so they can enter it to get to the bait easily. Where the tire piece is missing?

We had about a Inch of rain today now It's snowing so It's going to be re make time tomorrow. I also had great expectations. LOL

I snared a coyote today I was going to transfer It to the tire set but thought better of It.LOL

I have caught coyotes before using a truck tire that happened to be there in the 1st place. It was along a trail that they had been using so I set a snare right along the trail and fastened the snare to the tire. The coyote wasn't able to move the tire one bit and was DOA. I have gotten them just about every year that way, as they don't seem to be afraid of the tire.

Well I de activated the tire set for the time being. Know I'm out west ( WI) trapping $99.00 coyotes. #7 today.
Weather still sucks and It's suppose to rain on Monday. But the good part Of this Is I never had to get out of the truck today I just called the techs and I just showed them where the coyote was. Well I did get out to take their picture. LOL

I finally had a coyote visitation to the tire since the second day skunk catch. It also visited the Ed Sneider type dirt hole I had nearby, trap was in the bed sprung. Dog did not go into the tire. I made a flat set near the tire where the coyote tracks were. Rain today, followed by 18°F in a couple nights. Flat set has plenty of antifreeze mixed in. We'll see what happens.

They have 9 more collars. They had 30 but I think they are using them on the deer and the bobcat study.
If I catch any today they are going to need rain gear and a tent to work in. And I will probably be walking to some sets.

Back to the tire set. I'm fairly certain this girl was caught in the flat set I put in about 10 days ago near the tire. Has a vintage Monty #4 modified on the foot leg. Must have backed up into the tire and stepped on the Northwoods #3 DLS (back foot). I had long chains with re-rod stakes. Trap chains were wound around each other. Pretty much hog tied. When I cleaned up the fur after skinning, this may be my best quality coyote of the year. So, the tire set worked for a skunk, and maybe it helps attract in an open field. But no luck for me having a yote intentionally step inside to investigate any of the offerings.

I make a couple tire sets with my dad every year on his farm/deer camp in the up of Michigan. We usually get one or two dogs every year in them. I set outside the tire and use the tire as a drag so they don’t make a big bare spot in the food plot for hunting.

I usually just squirt a little urine on the tire like a post set. A couple rocks for guidance and it’s good. I have noticed the set catches younger males for the most part.
