Has anyone ever gotten a call for a nuisance mink? I haven't. They don't seem to be a nuisance around here.

Just curious.

Weasels, but never mink. One in a basement, 1 in a wall.

I had one mink killing chickens in a stall, in a barn. I think it killed four chickens and as many ducks. I stuffed a tube trap between some bails of hay in the next stall, where the mink was going to den and added loose hay to camo it for a blind trail set. The night I caught it, it had just killed a hen and tried to pull it through a 2" gap. It's entire head and neck was covered in chicken blood.
I also had one weasel in a 1700's home. Thought it was a red squirrel running on the ceiling. Caught it with a rat snap trap with PB, but I think it just happened to come out of a hole and stepped on the yellow pan.

Last year I had an escaped ranch mink job at a chemical plant. I believe I caught seven. Caught a wild mink at a Fleet and Farm. These are in addition to the yearly Koi pond calls I get for mink and the ones I get trapping nuisance muskrat.

In some cases I suppose it might be hard to distinguish weasel damage from that of a mink.

Do you find mink straying far from water?

Here they are called Dryland Mink. They have tick bites and flea bites which show up on the leather. Usually they appear after the muskrats are killed off in the sloughs as the mink digs into all the rat piles. I have had them kill piles of tame rabbits and the trademark eating the heads off chickens or ducks. Nuisance in the definition of them, because unless you can find a den or entry point, it becomes one of the hardest trapping experiences. Add farm cats and these mink usually are missing toes in having been pinched early in their careers and it weeds trappers out.

Do many of you do dryland blind trail set for mink with 110s? Last season all mine were trapped in bottom edge water sets, but I heard of a guy that was telling me he looks for their trails in the grass and said he catches them blindly that way. Of course a blind dry body grip set requires daily checks.

I wouldn't use a 110 for mink in a dry land set unless it was on a slide wire to deep water.

A dryland body grip around here, on a drowner, is something I've not heard of. Probably not legal here unless checked daily. Maybe a dryland blind foothold on a drowner is the better option for mink on a land trail, because it could be set up on a drowner cable with a 4 day check.

To catch mink on land the 120 is the trap you want. You don't need a magnum, the 120 will dispatch them quick and humanely.
In a 110 on land a mink will often stay alive for a while and the result can be dmgd fur,and a wrecked location that could have produced multiple catches.Of course dmg fur would not be a concern if trapping nuisance out of season.
A 110 is fine if the caught mink winds up in the water.

Do some of you like to use 1 of those little wire pieces that hangs between the 2 triggers? I suppose those are for 160 users.

Does this pertain to A D C complaints ? Because this sound more like fur trapping than nuisance work on a poultry kill.

Some mink are quite smart. Setting at the direct source of the complaint isn't always the sole answer.
Sometimes it may not be a small pen they are getting into, as some people let their poultry roam more than just inside a chicken coup.
