Used this set up last season and it worked great. Bolted a $20 harbor freight 1/2 ton crank winch to the 6x6 post in the shop inside my pole barn and use my cordless drill with the handle removed from the winch. Works forward and reverse, just set the direction on the winch and drill and squeeze the trigger. From 1" at a time to lifting a 150 lbs deer in 3 seconds. The pictures can explain better than I can. My base screws into a threaded insert that is flush with the concrete floor, so no tripping over anything during the off season. My drill can lift my 180 lbs. butt from the floor to the ceiling in about 3 seconds. Got about $30 in the whole set up minus the drill of course. Just thought I'd share to give guys on a tighter budget a cheaper option . Let know if anyone needs more info. , be glad to help.

Great idea. I have a crank winch for my skinning machine but not for long.

??? Will the drill replace an electric hoist for yotes and coon?

Did a lot of coon last year, a few coyotes, and a couple of otter. If the drill can't handle it, a ratchet and socket can be used for "manual" mode.

Classic example of "where there's a will, there's a way." Good job. I imagine though that drill cost more than an electric hoist. However if you already have the drill and boat winch it'll certainly save you money.

My wife picked up the drill and charger at a yard sale for $5, no batteries. She got me a two pack of knock off batteries online for around $20. Been a good little drill, use it a lot in the off season for all kinds of projects. Figure most people have some kind of drill laying around. Probably not the best set up for the high volume, long liners but gets the job done and saves a lot on the ol' back and shoulders. My 13 year old daughter loves it.

No pics in use, and I just started to redo my base I'll get some pics whens it's done. It's just a basic tube steel base with vise grips on each end.

You know that could be any corded drill motor. Those hand crank winches were used to raise and lower curtains in older poultry houses, so that may be a source for one cheap or free.

Yes, all last season, works great. My daughter and I did several coons, 3 otters, and 6 coyotes. We also used it to hoist 2 deer for skinning and butchering. We both love it, even to skin "manually " we can get the critter at the right height for each of us. On a full charge it can lift me (180 lbs) from the floor to the ceiling in about 3 seconds. It can bog a little on the shoulders of a yote, but a few wacks of a ball peen in the pits, a little manual tugging, pop the legs with a piece of broom stick, and good to go to the nose. The drill is only a 12 volt so a bigger drill could produce more power. My Makita has a slow "torque" setting and a faster "drill" setting ; I use it on the "torque" setting.
