Never heard so much crying about having to work 12 hr days in my life. The democrats in the senate are not tuned in to the real world. Seems like most places anymore are working long shifts. I know I've worked many 12 and 16 hr shifts night and day. Just sick of the whole thing and will be glad when its over. Just ranting.

Everybody wants to get paid nobody wants to work today, it’s tough to find people willing to work for overtime even. We are down 2 jailers now an not many good applicants out there to choose from. You want shot at Law Enforcement come out and apply and start out in the jail.

You get to live on the Missouri River with great hunting, fishing and trapping if you live out here and a few hours to the Black Hills.

I'm surprised the Dems aren't asking for time and a half.

The bulk of their time is spent raising money for the next elections not doing their job, they have a place they go to to beg for money because they can’t raise funds from the Capital building.

Many double shifts when I was working.Had a major breakdown at work one time and I ran a 38 hr shift to get it fixed.that was my longest stretch.

How true. You would be hard-pressed to name anything they've accomplished the past 3 years.

I work 4 10s and it rocks. 3 day weekends every week and plenty of time with the family; I get up at 0430 and am home at 1720 every day. Working 5 days a week would blow, bigtime. I'm not sure about 12 hour shifts, it would depend on the hours. In any case, I wouldn't whine and moan about it, I'm a big boy and I could either suck it up or get a different job.

Years ago, my kid had a job where he worked 3 12 hour days (36 hours per week) and 4 days off. After about 6 months, he quit. He said he loved having 4 days off, but dreaded going to work knowing he had 3 days of 12 hours ahead of him. I would have loved a job like that when I was in the workforce. But, this latest generation seems to want higher pay with less work.

All my days are 12hr. and swing shift to boot. Haven't been at it too long, just started my 15 year. As far as overtime, did about 15k worth last year so I guess I do my part.

We have gotten a few young guys on our team in the last 6-8 years that have stayed. Kinda lucky since in other areas they seem to quit in the first year.

I can’t find people to even work a 4 hour day. I’d hate to see what I’d get if I tried hiring for a 12 hour day. It’s insane. As someone mentioned earlier, everyone wants a check, no one wants to work. I’m kind of over it anyway. Have to redo most of what they do anyway. Costs me less money running myself into the ground than it does to send someone else out. 12 hour days are nothing. During our busy season, 16 hour days aren’t uncommon. Since I’m still teaching, I’m still pulling 12 hour days during the off season.

I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

12 hour shift worker and night shifts to. Wouldn't want it any other way, best schedule there is i never work over 4 in a row and get 7 days off once a month. And 4 hours of overtime in each pay period.

Let me sugar coat this

Looks like President Trump is making work for everyone, he is even putting Congress to work again, but I guess that's not a priority for Washington since they don't like to work.

I guess it depends on how physically hard your working....I think a lot of people today sit on their butts and really do not accomplish much as far as productivity. Some people are on their feet and do not accomplish much...

There are some folks that do accomplish a lot and are very productive.

God forbid a younger person has to work overtime hours. He or she will whine and moan like a little baby. They have an excuse saying it just goes to taxes. Just part of the soft and lazy society we now have.

When I was a Mine Foreman, I went underground at 5 am, didn’t come back outside till 4:15 pm. Then had an hour of paperwork to fill out.

Spent the day underground in less than 36 inches of height. Never bothered me.

They called me in one Saturday (off day) to work. I said of course. I started at 0700 and at 1900 my boss called whining that I was still working. She asked why I was still out? I said, I keep hitting the button after closing the previous job and another one pops up! She said, We were only asking for 8 hours. I sent her the text and email I received and nowhere on there did it say anything about 8hrs...ended up with 14 hours that day...at DOUBLE TIME!! Hurt my feelings, lol.
Now of course I was younger then and like my 8hr work days now. But I’m up at 4 to check traps before work then resetting/setting more traps after work. Makes for a very long day! I’ll be glad when I can retire and just spend 8-12 hours a day trapping.

If I had to sit through those hearings I'd be complaining to. Anybody who wouldn't needs to schedule a mental health evaluation.

Of course, they did ask for the job.

I'd rather live my life than work so many hours for someone else. Life is way to short to spend it working longer than you have to.

I've dumped way too much time into fixing things for people....

Then I learned to negotiate

Decide what you want and seek it out is what I'm thinking and doing

Getting another raise and more vay-kay plus just about as much overtime as I want to put in, and I do.

But it's not 12's usually and rarely 10's even, I just work the weekends if I need to but it's still steady dayturn regardless.

It's something I earned with experience and being good at what I do I suppose. I'm a blessed man for sure.

But it wasn't always like this, paid my dues so to speak. I'm waiting for the right youngster to show up and get hired, AND STAY,

so I can teach them what I know before I go......

cool

p.s. Swing-shift will kill you dead, I quit at 5 years and feel like I lost 15. Never again...

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.

I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.

Best Regards,

JT

I used to enjoy 12’s we did four on and four off.

I still preferred 24-72’s, the best.

I'd like to as well but I also like to eat, didn't pay attention in school and spent most of my time fueling my passion for the outdoors. I work twelve hour night shifts by choice. 7:00-7:00 with an hour commute on each side of it. I run pretty ragged during trapping season.

You get to live on the Missouri River with great hunting, fishing and trapping if you live out here and a few hours to the Black Hills.

Been there, (on the job not SD), done that, and thank The Good Lord I am too old to do it again.

Not true of ours. He is about 23-24. He has been taking a bunch of overtime (12hr shifts). Turns out he has bills and a girl he wants to wed. Been working of getting him his promotions. Got him ready for his next one but he has to wait six months. By then he will be ready for his next one. Kid is smart and wants to work. Our team has been lucky and got a couple like that.

Guess the point was that not all young kids don't want to work. Maybe we just got lucky with the last few that we got. They are eager to learn and I for one and willing to teach them. When SHTF I will still be the one dealing with it but I know I can count on them to take care of things with out me telling them their every move.

The new work force sucks. No concept of hard work. You can find Good ones but it is a looong process. You use to have 1 out of 10 that weren't worth your time. Now it is the opposite. That's why in do time they will take from the haves. To give to the have nots. Because they deserve it because they where born. LOL!!!!!!!!!

It all depends on the pay for me. My former job payed well. Never minded over time and worked plenty of it. My present job doesn't pay very good so I don't care much for overtime. Can make more on the side usually. I guess it boils down to, "Money talks, b.s. walks!"

I have always though the country would be much more prosperous if the standard work week was 4 10hour days and three day weekends. Those who want to work hard could put in an extra day or two a week and those who were happy with what they earned would have an extra weekend day to spread their money around and boost the economy.
