Anyone use water depth with footholds, and trigger placement with conibears to avoid small beaver? Looking to let the little guys grow in certain areas.

Most people set traps close to waterline where beaver first puts front feet down & get chance at both front and back feet. But for chance at just bigger beaver set further back for rear foot. Imagine where back foot will settle down before beaver climbs out. This will depend on slope of bank. A lot of times you can actually see where it is making an impression and put trap there. Check active trails to look at track sizes. Sometimes you can find a trail just a bigger beaver likes to use.

For 330 all ya can try is making low T or Y just an inch above trigger or setting 330 at most distant active trails. No guarantee, but helps

Use footholds with lots of pan tension if you want to avoid young of the year.

Not sure about pan tension. I've caught 2 lb rats In MB750s. I don't think there Is a good way to target just the older beaver In a colony. But staying as far as you can from active dens and active feeding areas will help. But your also going to take less older beaver that way. If you have good beaver habitat new beaver will move In.
