Another option is a conners swivel with a 30d nail jhook. Not my idea but it seems to work very well.

What would be a good starter welder for small stuff like this? Keep in mind I don't know anything at all about welding or welders. Hobart is a good low cost welder (I don't know if it's considered economy or not), it's what I have. I don't have a super cheap model (I do quite a few frivolous projects with it), but there are some value models out there. I'd say if you can spend a few hundred bucks on something, then you're definitely gonna be glad you did!

Hobart handler 140 is what I have. Done hundreds of trap mods and a couple thousand swivels and chain rigs. Plus many other welding projects. It’s held up well.
