I understand that it has a distinct smell, but should it smell like poo? I cut one up tonight that has been hanging for 10-14 days (can't remember exactly). Was dry on the outside, and still wet in areas on the inside, just wondering if this is normal.

Smelled an awful lot of castors and never had any that smelled like that. But strange things happen every day. Tom

Castor has a distinct and pleasant smell and as Tom mentions it has not ever smelled like poo to him or to me either.

Are you sure you dried castor sacs? Sounds like you might be sniffing an oil sac! 100% positive they are castor. Or you could just have a defective nose. Could be this! Lol

Willow castor and Aspen castor are worlds apart in smells. Willow is sour smelling, watery and orange in color when aspen castor is sticky sweet and tan in color, never dealt with gum castor but I hear that’s a sweeter odor. So diet has a lot to do with it so what are the eating!

I started a thread awhile back about castor color...I realized today that this particular castor was of the purple variety. I'm thinking that has something to do with it. I mixed it with some other that I had, and it's not quite as repulsive. When I mentioned that it smelled like poo...it was kinda like when you fart, and secretly enjoy it cause it's your's, if that makes sense!
