Even components. When you can find what you need. My grandson brought me 50 new hornady 270 brass, about 3/4 pound of IMR 4350 and a box of Sierra 130 grain gameking boat tails. I asked him about the bullets. Said he had them for awhile. I loaded them. Used my primers. I am getting to where some bullets, ( like those sierras) and primers are so dear I hate to shoot. I did get my hands on 3 boxes of 150 grain hornady roundnose for my 30-30. Shot about 30 of them the other day. Now I am wondering how to replace the powder. CHEAP factory rounds are up to a buck fifty each.
i feel sorry for all the young people in our country who don't know any better. This stuff seems normal to them.

A couple months ago, on a thread here about the unavailability of ammo I tried to explain how it "should" be and use to be to a chap who told us we just weren't looking hard enough.
I bought an 8 pounder of powder I never used before just so I had something to stuff into shells if I run out of a number I normally use. Haven't seen primers for close to 2 years.
(powder was 30 a pound!)

How long will Primers keep? most of us won't live that long if they are properly stored 50 years easily

Saw a local gun shop had had at least 4 boxes of large rifle primers (1000) and 8 lbs of 869 powder a week ago. Don't reload so no use for them. They are always getting in boxes of ammo.

(powder was 30 a pound!) Hey hippie, no need to beat around the bush. I don't mind you calling me out. I would ask you what powder you need so I could find it for you, but you won't tell me lol Look harder!!!
Gotta live up to the nickname...

Don't worry, if I could've remembered who it was I'd have put your name down. lol Ill buy all kinds of powders.....when I can find them. Its a see and buy as of yet, only because I ALWAYS kept extra in stock. I don't like living hand to mouth which seems to be the normal now a days.

How long will Primers keep? A few weeks back, I made some test buckshot loads with vintage Rem Sure Shot hulls.......which require a Rem 57 shotshell primer, which I have had since the early 1970's. They went BANG! Documented here, but a year ago, I went back to reloading for rifles after a decades long break. Mostly out of concern that chronic ammo shortages could become permanent with the flick of a switch. Primers being the switch. Turn those off and there would be no ammo to buy anywhere. Guns without ammo are not even a good club. But in past year.......have managed to accumulate all the primers, powders, bullets and brass to load all calibers I wanted to......and in abundance. If used wisely, will outlast me and my kids alike. Know what you need and when you see it you buy it. It constantly comes and goes. Helps that I'm within driving distance to both Midway, Graf's and Full Circle Reloading in St. Charles, so have not had to pay haz mat fees. All three of those have been getting some stock......none of them have it all.

Awesome, here I have to hope a mom and pop store gets something or pay fees like you said. I won't do that as of yet.
