Found a place on Google maps last year that is tucked away with no public boat access. It has a dam that was built in the 20's and makes a small lake. There is a 2 mile long gravel driveway that is rough as heck to get back to it. Have to put the truck in 4x4 to make it back there.

On your way down the driveway you pass this sign and others with similar messages

Get to the end and the boat ramp is a $10 launch fee. Boat ramp looks like this. Two very sketchy houses back there with some questionable smells. You fishing here?

Don't know if I'd want to launch a boat there. A kayak maybe depending on whether the fishing was good. Sounds like something out of the movie, Deliverance.

My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Does that sign actually say "Death Awaits?"

If there's fish in there I sure would.

I would definitely be armed if I went to an area like that. Plus, the fishing would have to be great to make it worthwhile to venture into such a remote spot like that.

I would check the county land records and see who owns the road , the launch and where the boundaries were.

if the land isn't owned by the county, state or township and is private then no

if it is county , state or township or I suppose federal sure I would fish it if the fishing was good

who is collecting the 10 dollars?

It is all family land on the access driveway and the land beside the lake that the boat ramp is on. The water is public on the map but the adjacent land is private. The $10 goes to the guy that lives in one of the houses that is part of the family that owns the land

35 catfish, most about 3-4 pounds with the biggest close to 10 pounds. Great eaters

Even caught some crappie while throwing the cast net to catch shad for bait. Threw them back. Planning on coming back to crappie fish

Just dirty up at the top where the launch is. Down river a little it opens up and is beautiful

I wish it was closer to the house. Almost 2hr away for me and a lot of water between here and there

Catfish wouldn't do much for me to venture back in that far. However, if you were talking large sunfish or bream, that's another story.

But we don’t have catfish up here in lakes

well if he is charging 10 bucks and the fishing is good , then it isn't trespassing if you pay the 10 dollars I would take a video of me shoving the 10 in the slot so if the sheriff got called I would have my evidence that I put it in.

Probably a good idea to document the cash being put in the box. Didn't think about that.

The sheriff is not coming back here though, they wouldn't ever invite them to take a look around back there grin

Would I bother to fish this smaller lake? I would not, but then I don't know the other opportunities you have or don't have in your area.

Lots of other options around but most of it is highly populated with a large recreational crowd. Too many jet skis and wake boats this time of year. I like finding stuff that’s tucked away to fish in the summer time, that’s what led me here. That and duck hunting

oh I know the fun of having lines run over by pleasure boaters who had to put themselves up on a sand bar to run over my lines I left them 90% of the channel they could have driven their boat 7 wide in the channel just fine.

thank god they don't put lights on jet skis or those annoying punks would never stop buzzing around the boat this is part of why I like the Mississippi it is big enough I can go find a backwater to be mostly alone in certainly that is not good for or jet skies

4wd for a driveway?

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
