I notice on my sets sometimes that after a day or two in the heat you can see the outline of the pan where the dirt has lost moisture . I bed with peat sometimes and also use screen wax paper and still seem to see this especially when it is dry. Does anyone have this issue lf so how do you prevent it?

Put cut grass clippings (or similar) over set if expecting this to happen

The peat moss will suck the moisture out of the dirt or in the case of the wax paper/screen theres just less dirt available so it dries faster. You could blend the sets in with grass or you can bed the trap deeper with more dirt over the trap.

I see this sometimes in winter...the dirt dries out over the pan and that spot stands out. I quit worrying about it.

Don’t worry bout it much. Sometimes I sift a fine layer of duff over mine and that hides it pretty good. More often than not though I just let it be what it is,

Btw, why are you bedding with peat?

It has been very rainy in my area the last couple weeks so I bedded in peat to keep the traps functioning.

Well I never have got anything in a trap after it's rained except for a well protected natural cubby. I always reset after the rain, but zero chance I would even be trying with how much rain we have got in august. What are you trapping anyways?

I see it all the time when the weather conditions are right. I never worry about it. If it bothers you, you can sift or sweep a bit of duff over the set to camo it better.

Better yet if you have any dried leaves lying around grab a handful.

Crush and roll them around in your hands to break them up and spread them over the set area and a bit beyond.

I like to keep my finished sets a bit on the rough looking side as a rule. Unless the type of set and ground cover/sand etc. would be better suited to a more uniform finished look.

Your surrounding dirt has more moisture in it than the dirt over the pan. Not a problem. Bed it about 3/4'' under the dirt- sometimes that makes it so is not so noticeable if it bothers you.

Just making sure it would not cause any avoidances on coyotes.
