WannaBe. I didnt have time to make brown wax sand. I was home 6 days and guide 2 hog hunts at nite with thermals and caught a farm coyote for a neighbor. Even when I am off. I have to work ! LOL! I got 40 lbs of waxed sand from = MB just to try

Steeltraps, thanks for keeping us updated with the experiment. Have you tried setting mb550s on this job to see if they fire better? I’m planning to try making some waxed sand and want to see if it’ll help mb550s to fire through the wet clay/sand a little quicker. May bed a trap in the yard, soak it with the hose, and then set it off and see.

Just wondering....if you needed red sand, or some other shade of brown or something...what about using one of the dyes for concrete or mortar mix? I'm sure you would have to mix it wet with the base sand and then dry it all out but it might work. Even though I have used it to color mortar mix I don't know if it has an odor or not. Didn't think to sniff it, just wanted to be done with the job.

Dang it. Now I have to go to the gulf coast with a couple of 5 gallon buckets from Lowes ! wink

* Isn't white sand ( on a beach ) actually coral that has been pulverized for millions of years by the waves of the oceans ?

No. I have pretty much retired the MB 550 unless its in a spot that may have a strong chance of getting run over. Or on sandy high ridges caught 1 bad looking coyote in a 2 trap set with 550s today

Chris you got me going with all this talk of waxed sand. I don't use it, just too heavy and no need for it in the ground I trap.

I need to get going on making lots of waxed dirt/peat this week. I had a boat load of domestic projects I have just about got all wrapped up now. Got the canning done and just a few small painting projects. Going to finish off some oil sacs today and check the freezers for other odds and ends to clean them out.

Once I get rolling it won't take but a few days to put up what I need. If my buddies would stop borrowing my waxed dirt and dry sifted peat I wouldn't need to work up any for this season.

Bob. I am mainly just experimenting. I have come to except the fact. That it MAY only get wetter in the south from years to come. Since I trap 90 % repeat customers for last 8 year. Put up waxed sand in someone’s barn may be an option.

Where’d you get the brown sand? I think that Lowes sand is bleached or something. I looked at some and it was white like flour white.

As I said above had no time. So got from MB trapping supplies. Just wanted to try. Had about 600 or 700 hundred dollar to spend on order. So what was 40 more? I was buying stuff for next 5 jobs. Plus I never like to get low on anything

I use waxed sand for our freezing winter conditions. It works great, much better than waxed dirt. I never thought about needing it because of rainfall.
