Saw a realtree video with Bob you know who, was intrigued by his using a cut down plastic barrel for equipment? 30 gal or what anybody care to enlighten me ? found it rather interesting and the t handle trowel, spoon was not something on the shelf that I am aware of . Always looking for a better way to do things.

I'm thinking, and I could be wrong, it's on his trapping DVD's , not on YouTube.
I'm pretty sure, he has sold the rights to them and doesn't own the rights anymore.

* In regards to the use of a small barrel as a back pack, I use one and was in fact inspired by, well, that you know who guy.
laugh

Looks like a 15 gallon drum cut down with another smaller container bolted to the side.

15 gal. Plastic drum, cut down is what "that guy" uses.

They make backpack strap kits just for the smaller open top drums. They're for back country canoe folk who use the drums as watertight storage. The backpack kits allow them to portage their supplies.

If I were walking a line it might be a consideration. But I'm to old and fat for that nonsense, lol.

Check out self leveling mixing barrels. They're 15 gallons and run about $80ish. I just got one that was 18 gallons and a little bigger than I was expecting but will work to hold gear either strapped to a pack frame or strapped to a game cart for getting back behind gates. Like warrior said, the canoe barrel packs are nice but probably not real practical for trapping.

Best pic I have on my phone but in the middle is a blue 60 Liter barrel and harness. We use this one for canoeing and have another one with holes drilled in the bottom for trapping. The harness is easy to swap out barrels, can change the size of barrels as well. 330 size traps fit no problem and the harness makes it bearable to carry some weight.

thanks everyone for your input----having a heck of a time finding something like that locally-- shipping would probably be expensive----- also noticed even on this newer type video, he is still driving rebar stakes and digging holes with a punch/trowel ? I have been doing this a long time as well but made the move to cable earth type anchors and the use of a cordless drill------I don't know him but he must be tougher than woodpecker lips

Actually it was 330s that got me to looking at barrels. Most of my canine work I can drive right up to a set but some of the beaver work top of the hill is as close as I can get with a vehicle.

I can carry 2 or 3-330's in a cat litter pail. Might not be as nice as a barrel but cheaper.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

For some of my long walk-in lines for mink/muskrat i use a plastic garbage/laundry basket with a pack basket strap attached. You can buy these for only $10. Also a sling with large clips on the ends that goes over your shoulder will make toting a lot of bogygrips easy too

Till that day.....

Probably the reason for that barrel is that it's common for farmers to get cleaning liquids and such in, so you can just get the discarded barrels and cut off the top.
I used one for a while, until it cracked. Pack baskets are good for setting up lines where you have to walk a little, but usually, when checking I don't need something that big.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I wanted something a little bigger so my extra thick foam kneeling pad AND my canvas setting cloth would fit as well as my tools. I made one by putting together 2 15 gal barrels that had been cut to make mineral feeders, just put them back together to make one and then bolted on my bait/lure holder aka Bob you know who style although Lucero is where I saw to bolt plastic waste baskets on the side for lure. Its more of a tote with a shoulder strap to work out of a pickup. I think it will work nicely, know soon enough. I wouldn't think of setting steel without my commercial grade kneeling pad I first saw a phone company guy using!

Good thoughts KS...it all works and we all have different needs.
Trapping off a truck or quad runner sure makes it easier...walking back into the fur is another story. Trappers get creative when they find fatigue hands, arms and shoulders cause pain. Lol
