They are not protected here. They fly through the yard in flocks of 12 to 15. They chase all the other birds away from the feeder and help themselves. Nothing but bullies. But VERY clever birds, no doubt.

Nice!
The Amish here set similar traps for tweety birds. What do ya catch them for?
Ok, I see why. We were posting at the same time.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Nasty -, peck the eyes out of new born calves. Haven't seen one here in quite a few years, and that is fine by me.

As the saying goes, not every coyote has a magpie but every magpie has a coyote.

Magpies are considered one of the three smartest animals in the word. I'm guessing ravens are one of the other (probably smartest), and crows? I had a couple beaver carcasses covered with a pallet, and then four more pallets (one upright on each side of the pallet that was covering the carcasses). A group of about 20 ravens figured out twice how to get the pallets off of those beaver carcasses. I never saw them do it; wish I had. Ravens are like magicians.

Doesn't sound like Magpies are beneficial bird the Audubon Society makes them out to be. But then, neither are starlings and they seem to give them a pass too.
