I only see one problem with it and that is it's not in my hands. Great looking gun a work of art.

That is a fine looking squirrel gun you have made with your own hands . If it shoots as well as it looks the squirrels are in trouble .

Cool <<<sorry, that my oldest son only typed "Cool." Now, I personally think that is VERY COOL. Beautiful workmanship on that, which is clear to become a family heirloom.

Range update, after some filing on the front sight and a little drift to the back, I've got it sighted in at 25 yards good enough to put every shot in a squirrels head. I need to work on the load a bit more. The .350 ball and .018 patch loaded fairly easy, so I'd like to try .020 patches. 35 and 40 grains of powder made no difference at 25, I am sure 50 yards will be a different story. All in all, pretty darned happy so far.

Make some patches out of some old blue jeans....Denim is about .020-.022... that should work. Just lube them up good

Not a kit at all. Parts mainly from Muzzleloaders Builders Supply, barrel from Rice, lock from L&R, stock blank from Pecatonica. Around $1000 in parts.

Good luck on your search. I started with a Traditions Crockett on 32, great gun.

I bought a 32 for squirrel hunting. I've really enjoyed this post.

In my .50 flinter I use linen patching with mink tallow and a .490 ball over 60gr 3f

My 50 and 54 both like a ball .010 under bore, .018 ticking patches and spit lubes for targets, coon grease for hunting. The 50 likes 65 grains 3F and the 54 needs 85 grains.

I have read and talked with a lot of people about the smaller bores with deep rifling, and they all agree that those barrels like a tighter patch and ball combo. Quite a few guys even use a bore size ball. If I would have had some .010 patching I would have tried a double patch. I've got some worn out jeans I'll measure and hit the range again. Off hand I was still hitting golf balls every shot at 20 to 25 yards, but it could be better on paper.
