I do a lot of drowners on public land and road ditches. Plus, use cheaper traps, so when I do loose one. It don’t hurt as bad.

My experience says (in my part of the country) that there are more coon traps, of all types) stolen or destroyed by a few coon hunters using dogs. The dogs find a coon in one trap and the hunters start looking for others. If they can't remove the traps, they will destroy them. I am stating HARD CORE FACTS here. When I was a state and Federal Game Warden, I averaged probably 6 to 10 arrests per year on such cases. In some cases, they destroy the trap and others would take them and throw them in a lake or other body of water.

There were of course always a lot of theft on most all of the wildlife areas I worked. Muskrat and coon traps were the most thefts. The reason the dog hunters excuse was that their dogs would get caught and injured. Of course, we know that is impossible with DP traps.

As was stated above; I am sure most any farmer has coon problems and if you show them the DP traps and how they work, I am sure you will find plenty of places to trap and possums.

BTW... I am not taking sides or falsely accusing all dog hunters, I used to run a couple hound myself.

This right here. If someone wants th steal them the are going to really work at it. That's sucks, maybe try and get them out of the line of traffic.

Too bad, make sure your traps aren't out in the open and paint them camo. Also as stated, earth anchors

Fellow "sportsmen" will screw you over quicker than any anti will. Just a statement of fact. They'll steal traps, trail cameras, trees stands, climbing sticks, gear out of your truck etc. It just is what it is.

I beg to differ.

It’s almost always HUNTERS.

Here is more likely to be other "trappers" than either, but I have had hunters get some of them too. The majority are taken by other trappers looking for locations and finding your traps instead.

I have always said, until this country starts cutting fingers off, thieves will always be abundant.

If you tie off to a tree be sure it will tighten on the tree. Don't make a loop around the tree and back to your trap. If you do a coon can get up the tree , then they may end up hanging from the trap. Even if they just go up the tree thay will be hard to get down.

On small trees I rap the cable around the tree two or more times and back thru it’s self so it will lock on the base I have had coons climb small trees go over a limb come down the other side and pull out of DP
