In my case they had to bring in the national guard to replace the people that replaced me. My supervisor walked out a few weeks after I left because they were so short staffed and one of the places I delivered to couldnt wait a whole two hours to get a basic office supply order that they couldnt be bothered to be placed in time. My manager made her, or well tried to make her, do the delivery so she walked out. I left when the day before the clot shot mandate went into effect by the hospital, which was two weeks before Joe's nationalo mandate was announced.

Of course give notice if possible. I've left jobs without notice but only because I was so mad if I didn't leave right then I'd have ended up going to jail, lol.

If you're really not wanting to work the full two weeks for some reason, another thing I've done in the past is told my manager I was taking another job and they wanted me to start next week but I told them I needed to give them 2 weeks notice first. In that case, they were happy to let me leave after just finishing out the week instead of working the full 2 weeks.

Leaving on good terms is best thing to do. I went back to two of the jobs I left and am still friends with both. But, if the job is terrible or unsafe quit on the spot. I quit one job the Friday after Thanksgiving when I got knocked of the wall setting trusses; by the drugged up operator. If I did not know I could go back to a previous job I might have been forced to stay.

If it's a giant corporate suckhole where you're a number without a face, then do what you feel like. They won't care. They may not even replace you... They'll just pawn your job off on some poor schlep that's already overworked.

If it's a local gig where you actually get to see the guy who signs your paycheck, and they've been fair in their dealings with you... Be a man and give them the chance to respond in kind.

I gave 2 weeks notice. I "retired" but 7 years earlier than planned. The people that were a pain in my tailpipe knew that I had enough dirt on them to likely send them to jail so they stayed WELL clear of me for the next 2 weeks.

I was at Lowes buying a grill on Friday. It was up high and the guy helping me need a forklift which was tied up. In the about an hour that we waited for the forklift I watched that guy hustle around helping other people and checked in with me 3 times letting me know the status of the forklift. I heard him telling one of the other customers that this was his last day. I was impressed. I've never seen someone work so hard on their last day so I asked him about it. It was true, he had just moved to FL from Ohio a few months ago and picked up the Lowes job but was moving to a job that paid twice as much. That impressed me more, good for him. I told him I've never seen anyone work so hard on their last day and tipped him $20. Any setbacks a guy with that kind of work ethic suffers will only ever be temporary.

There has been individuals give their 2 week notice and the next day they are walked out. I don't have many years left and have mixed feeling on how to go about it when the time comes. My thought just might let them know before I walk out the same day. Just don't know.....

I work for the same Fortune 500 company that Wolfdog does and I have to say I don't agree with this. I've found them to be a great company to work for. We usually always make our quarterly bonuses... we'll be getting the one from Q3 on Dec. 6th. All the employees in the entire corporation just last week got a raise that averaged over $1/hr company wide. Full time employees have pretty good, affordable healthcare, plenty of sick time, as well as vacation and personal time off. Part time employees even get vacation and personal time off, and an available health plan (although that one sucks). For over a year during the Covid BS, the employees were given a MONTHLY bonus of $300 just for showing up to work. If you need a day off for whatever reason, there is no problem getting it. And personally, I work M-F 6am-3pm (actually either Tue.-Fri or Mon-Thurs. as I'm only working part time right now by choice). I've worked for plenty of mom and pop type businesses over the years, but none have treated me as well as this "giant corporate suckhole" does.

^^this is good advice. Don't burn bridges, I continue to contract for companies I used to work for. Live by the Golden Rule......Always.

2 weeks notice is the right thing to do IF the company does the right thing by emplyees that are leaving. If the company gives the middle finger to employees that have given notice, that is what they deserve in return. I hope that is not the case in your situation. A respectfull departure is the best for all involved, if all will do that.

Years ago I worked at a company that had been a great place to work for many years but that all changed in a short time with new senior management. Suddenly the long term employees were no longer valued. A coworker once said if he were to leave he would love to have a flatbed roll up with a band playing "You can take this job and shove it, I ain't workin here no more." Sounded like a splendid idea to me, but that was a special case.

Gave them the two years I told them I would and just not making the money I need right now and with as many better playing places hiring diant make any sense for me to stick around here . Nothing , much, against the company just got stuff needs to be handled and I'm not interested in working here anymore.
I've about quit here before and told the store supervisor and and store manager and they where ecool about it. Other places I've worked , especially small places just seem to take it as a insult and make the last too weeks as crappy as possible.

Sench down other employment then make your move. Try not to burn bridges because with this economy they may be one of the few hiring if things go south at the new place. Remember last one hired first one let go. I've always found that it easier to find work when you have work plus no added pressure to take something to pay the bills that you wouldn't otherwise do.

I’m old school. I would give two weeks notice even though the same company would usually tell you this is your last day if they want to terminate you. I worked for a company for twenty years and was unexpectedly let go one morning and the supervisor said it was my last day. I was not bitter and ended up using the same supervisor for a reference for my next job. He gave a good reference and my new boss said my previous supervisor’s reference is one of the reasons I got the new job. Most of the time layoffs or terminations aren’t personal. Even if it is, I would just get on with my life since I couldn’t do anything about it anyway. If you take it personal, it may come back to haunt you.
