To keep it unthawed, the best thing you can do is keep it in your freezer.

Been using heated buckets from tractor supply for years, always take the warranty on them for two years, they last about that long. Come on when freezing & off when it warms up.

My flock I started in 2006 still going strong, I water them in the morning, in the evening I dump it or break the ice and refill in the morning, never had any problems.

Heated chicken waterer, only way to do it. We have our coop close enough to the garage where we can just steal power and then it's plugged into a 3 gallon waterer.

I use this heated bucket with nipples. Its the only way to go. Just plug it in and never worry about it. Never froze on me yet. My quail took right too it too.

One 250 Watt red heat bulb hung over...yes over Rubber pan about 18 inches. Heats the coop and no frozen water.

Been doing it that way for 15 years now. No problems

We intentionally mis-use words like that. Hot water heater, irregardless...it goes on and on. Vechile too.

To keep it thawed we use and heated base with out galvanized waterer on top of it. We've had electric in the chicken house ever since we ad a chicken house (long time) and have had no issues. We also use the electric to run lights on timers to increase production in the winter.

Our chicken coup is on a 16' trailer and gets moved around the farm so no electricity. So 3 5 gallon bucket go in the back of the gator and the rubber ferry pans get busted and dumped and refilled for the chickens and the 5 gal buckets for the goats get dumped or swapped out if frozen to bad to get dumped.

Food grade Bucks are free. We get icing buckets from local bakery. I don't think they are true 5gal but they are close.

My goats and chickens stay behind premier 1 electro net fence and it helps with predators. Chickens also get locked up at night.

My chickens are never ao a wore down crap covered Bare dirt pen. Part of the beauty of moving them at least once a month. But that does take me about 4 hrs if I do it alone.

They sell a heater base for the galvanized wagerers.
They have them at feed stores and rural king here.

You can also order them from Jeffers supply catalog.
