For about a week while checking my line at daylight there was a spike buck under an apple tree just 10 yards from the road. It would not even lift it's head up if i drove on by. But if i would slow down it's head would come up & stay up till i was on down the road

They behave almost like that at our Golf Course, but just the does & fawns

I used to see deer all the time while working fields with a tractor , they would let you get close also.
If you stopped , they watched you , it you shut down the tractor or got off it , they were gone.
While running a trap line with an ATV same thing ,they watched you and wouldn't run unless you stopped and got off.

That has been my experience growing up in farm country. There are some guides in our area with big leases. One of them drops hunters off via tractor because the deer are very familiar with the sound it makes and don't see it as a threat.

I have seen Deer many times feeding on the shoulder of a major interstate highway. All those vehicles just become part of the scenery.

Why would you take Boco seriously? LOL!

AJE- Did you draw any conclusions this far into gun season- one year is far from a trend but did it change your experience from previous years?

Deer adapt quickly to mechanical sounds in farm country and that is where most deer are. Other species actually use motor noise as a sign that they can find food. Many times when cutting alfalfa the fox, birds of prey, coyotes etc. are in the fields while it is being cut looking for all the mice and voles that go through the machine. Sometimes they come very close. With cabs on most farm equipment driven today they pay little attention to the human aspect.
Roughly 25K of deer are killed by autos each year in WI. Those did not adapt but the 100s of thousands that cross roads frequently have. I think those that have private property acres and post it and want no one in or no activity, logging etc. do have issues with any type of traffic, be it motorized or on foot. If they are not used to any activity, then almost anything will spook them.

Well I'm afraid to say things are really screwed up. I still haven't seen a deer. There's two other neighbors doing things on two of the three other edges of our property so I can't necessarily say it's all due to one cause.

In the past I've had neighbors like that- it's frustrating when the Clown Car shows up- it sounds like you're investing a lot of energy and research in land management techniques, you can only control what you can control.
