It shouldn't be up to the government to tell business whether they can drug test. I, for one, welcome drug testing. It lessons the odds that I have my safety and possible life in the hands of some idiot druggie that obviously couldn't care less about his own life, let alone mine. I like to go home at the end of the day, not the hospital or the morgue. Pretty simple, if you don't like drug testing, find a job where they don't have it.

I use to be onboard with this opinion however, if you are working a job and someone is impaired, what’s the difficulty in saying, “I ain’t working with Johnny Joint for lunch because my safety would be in jeopardy?”

There isn’t a company out there that would dismiss someone’s safety concern this day and age.

You have to disclose any meds you are taking. The sample gets atomized and the test counts ppb. If you are abusing your script, it will show in the count.

Test all the people on the public dole first.

We could save billions in benefit costs.

Never happen , but it's a great idea.

i dont want it and i can pass it any day. i refrain from use because of it, but i dont feel pot has any more lasting effect on job performance than alcohol does. what i do on friday or saturday night has no bearing on work performance monday morning.

When they first started talking about it I worried about false positives. I have yet to meet anybody I believed say they got a false positive. It is just another feel good ineffective money waster though.

That guy in the back row of the Petro on I65 just south of Elizabethtown KY, up all night smoking meth with a couple of the fancy ladies is out there. His electronic log says he was shut down for 10 hours even though he never slept. In his shaving kit is a bottle of artificial pee he bought online to pass the drug test. He sticks it down in his under wear a couple hours before he goes in for his drug test so temperature is good. If he doesnt have time for that he warms it on the defroster then sticks it in his pants so it will adjust faster.

Eventually he will crash and get checked then lose his license. Unfortunately all to often Johnny crack head lives and some mom with kids dies.

Meanwhile the preponderance of guys just earning an honest living have to put up with electronic logs and drug tests even though they are not the problem.

Just like gun control doesn't do anything to alleviate violent crime, electronic logs and drug tests are not getting deadbeats out of big trucks.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

i do not in any way condone drug use while driving/working. my point is, a brain surgeon could smoke a joint right before doing his job & docs dont get whiz quized. there are a lot more sensitive jobs than guiding a truck down the road that arent subject to mandatory drug testing. im not talking about hard drugs or road dope that keeps your eyes open all night, just weed.

correct. as i said, not talking hard drugs.
recreational weed is legal in about as many states as not, an adult can legally attain it from a dispensary and use it responsibly in the privacy of their own home, when off duty. yet if you get tested any time in the next 30 days or so, your guilty. i dont mind at all being tested for any other drug, but weed doesnt need to be on the ban list. come up with a test that shows someone is under the influence on the spot. (same as a breathylizer does for alcohol) not in the last month.

It's a waste of time completely and should have been done away with a long time ago. If there is an accident, the police will take whoever the public employee is to get drug tested if that person gives permission and/or is forced. If somebody can do a job as long as they aren't coming to work buzzed up, I could care less what they do on their free time. We got a lot more important stuff to worry about, although I will say that it has done a lot of "preventative drug use" in terms of somebody not wanting to lose their job. As far as what drugs they test for, it all depends, but you can be sure that they aren't just testing for anything and everything, not how it works.

Well finster I know a truck driver that would appreciate it if all drivers were drug tested, So you know all the truck drivers could get home alive also. If you test one, test them all. Personally, I never have and never will.

Accidents can not be prevented by testing people after the accident. What is the logic in testing post-accident when drug use is forbidden to start with? You can't be a little bit guilty when someone is maimed or killed.

Life comes with risk. At what point does giving up liberty in the hope of reducing risk, make you a slave? At what point do you realize that risk is not being reduced and your just giving up liberty?
