At 14,400 when I was in my 30's I was out of breath, could only walk 50 yards and sit down, walk another 50 yards etc until I got to lower elevation. A weird feeling. A training mission that I did not do good in......jk

I lived at 6500 feet above sea level. When I got up around timberline I got tired faster but I was pretty well acclimated. I ran a trap line on foot every winter that was about 7 miles in and 7 out on foot. Walked it every day for 3-4 weeks. Probably take me two days just to climb up to one of those lakes now if somebody else carried my pack for me.

12’600 in Colorado. Started climbing up the back side of steep north facing dish that we had glassed elk in several years prior . In hindsight it wasn’t the smartest decision and I should have turned around after not finding the ellk. But when your more than halfway to the top somtimes you just gotta keep on going so that you can see what’s on the other side

Little over 14k by vehicle on Pike's Peak. Little over 13k hiking when I lived in Yosemite. Routinely over 9k and sometimes 10k and 11k here around the house. My trapline is over 7k in places

About 12,600, within eyesight of Mt Baldy. Storm came in fast while we were up there. Being completely surrounded/in a storm cloud with thunder on your level was different.

Somewhere around 14,500 in the Andes in Ecuador. That was the pass we drove over. Truck ran like crap at that altitude.

Have elk hunted just below there at about 11,000+ ft.
We live in Laramie at 7220 though so not an issue.
Parts of the forest we archery elk hunt are at 10,000 ft and higher.

For me it was over 11k west of Denver on interstate 70, if I remember correctly.

For hunting, it was between 8 and 9000ft. We got there a couple days early and the altitude gave me a headache the first day, but as for running out of breath it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I will say, I was in pretty darn good shape back then, that was 30 years ago.

I live at close 450ft above sea level and can look out my window to where I hunt on the mountain that tops at around 2100ft. The Rockies where we hunted in Colorado were much higher above sea level, but from foot to peak wasn't much different than here by looking at them. Ya just started out at 6k and the top was 8k.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

My young two great nephews and their girl friends climbed Mt. Borah to the top this past summer. Their dad, my nephew, quit at about 11,500 feet. I believe the location he stopped climbing is called Chickenout Ridge in which many climbers turn back. He said it was too white-knuckled for him to continue climbing with the loose rock and narrow ledge. Apparently, one heck of an adrenaline rush!

Timberline is about 11 -11.5 in CO. Why do you get 1000 plus feet higher to hunt elk? They dont seem to spend much time at timberline to me.

Years ago, my uncle that lived in Wyoming, took my dad and grandpa on a weeklong fishing trip. The lakes were high in the mountains. Dad and grandpa lived in Nebraska and they were so sick, they could barely get themselves off the mountain. They had to leave the gear they carried. Dad always said that was the sickest he had ever been. He was 6'5 and 270 pounds.
