I'd politely remind the offender of the rules 2 times, the 3rd time I'd remind him with the back of my hand. If that corrected the action we would move on from there.

Shoes guy : Tell him look at the sign. Smoker guy : Tell him to leave now and if he don't, he won't get any drink/food.

If I was a bar owner that didn't want smoking in my bar, and someone lit up a smoke, I'd remind them of that... once. The second time they would be told not to come back.
Interesting. What if it kept happening but not to you, say it was a good friend, ex-military guy that most everyone really liked and respected, that owned the bar? How'd you feel about it? Rhetorical, never mind. You don't need to reply, my curiosity has been fully satisfied. Thanks for everyone playing along.

Yep, you have the right to trespass somebody from your place of business if they don't follow your rules as long as they are reasonable.

Maybe his bar patrons labor of love has fell on hard times and discussing such labor is not of high priority amongst them. The bar owner, with the interest of his patrons in mind, allows a little muddy boot wearing, cigar smoking, and other tom foolery to keep his patrons entertained. Who knows, the bar owner may even get a chuckle out of it once in a while too.

Well, how about this one,,, say you own a restaurant and you have posted a no smoking sign. Then there's a guy that comes in and lights up a big old stinky cigar. You tell him to put it out, even put it out for him a couple times but every few days he comes back and fires up another cigar. The other patrons of your restaurant, love the food and everything, and they respect your rule, but they don't like the smoke so they quit coming by as often.
How would you feel about it? You meet him at his car in the parking lot. As he starts to exit, you pull a throw away and scatter him back into the car. Place the throw away in his cigar holding hand and dial 911.

I always take my shoes off when I enter someone's house unless they tell me not to. That's one reason why I only wear shoes that I don't have to tie.
My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".

I'd think one of two things... either that the bar owner really likes the guy and is willing to allow him to break the rules, OR the bar owner really doesn't care one way or the other if people smoke in the bar, and he just hung up the signs to appease whiney non-smokers. Because if he cared about it enough, he would deal with the problem. Since he doesn't mind enough to do anything about it, there's no reason for me to get my knickers in a knot about it... that would make me just like those whiney non-smokers lol.
