I just saw a short YouTube video of it. Sorry I don't know how to post links. But a semi truck was across the tracks and the freight train hit it and derailed. Collegedale, Tennessee. 134 ' concrete truss was the load on the truck.

Truck drivers are idiots when it comes to trains.

Before they closed the crossing closest to me trucks would try it. It's an uphill downhill crossing I wouldn't cross with a pickup pulling a boat. Seriously I've drug the hitch going across. I'd drive the half mile down either side of the track to cross on the flat. Every year I'd have to call the sheriff's dept at least three times to tell them some idiot is hung up on the tracks again.

Overtime for the track crew and the car knockers.

Track was bowed up about 2' off the ground ahead of the engine of that train!

You just don't by those trusses at Walmart. Someone's project is going to be way behind.

Does the truckers insurance pay for this? Imagine having to pay out on a totaled train.

Wouldn't a load that long and oversize have an escort crew?

I would think it would require a escort. Where are all the truck drivers?

Watching the video of the train hitting the pre-stressed beam and clearing a path like a snowplow was chilling.
My brother works several blocks from the crash site, and was amazed at the efficiency of Norfolk Southern's response. In two hours, gravel trucks were lined up, and all manner of heavy equipment to lay 50' sections of pre-assembled track that NF has staged along their tracks for such emergencies.
That line carries coal, fuel, VWs and raw materials for Little Debbie. He said the line was losing $250,000/hr. and is up and running this morning.
Thank God the Little Debbie plant nearby was spared!
No rear escort is visible in the video.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.
