Never tried to catch a bobcat before

Flagging, cubby with white chicken feathers and some Cat Collector in the back

I got thick skin so tell me what you really think, otherwise I don't learn and keep doing it wrong wink

A couple of things that I keep in mind when setting for bobcats:
If a cat is attracted to my flagging and stands underneath it, will it then be looking right into the entrance to my set?
If using a cubby, is it big enough to not make the cat enter a confining space, or open at each end so that it can believe it can walk through?

I agree with the friar. Also, use something skunky for a lure and some beaver castor. Cats can't resist those 2 things.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I know nothing about cubbies and doubt you need one in Texas. Sorta curious what’s the purpose of cubbies? Is it mainly used in snow areas and something used so the cat can stay dry or hide in? Never really heard of anyone in the South using them. Guess I’ve never had a need, they clog up enough coyote sets as it is.
But, I might try one. I’ll take my 8yr old and tell him to build be a tunnel out of sticks and brush and I’ll come back and check it out when he’s done. I’ll place a set and the front and back and see what happens. Bet I could load up him and his buddies and have a dozen build in no time, lol!

I like a cubby for a couple reasons. First is that I can hang a chunk of beaver in it and it is not visible from above so the birds don't bother it. Second is that they stay ready to go longer in the winters up here. I also like to be able to set up a trap exposed under the cover of the cubby and not have them freeze in as easy

Cubby sets are deadly on bcats and grey fox, but they do take a lot longer to construct. Dirthole sets are much faster and efficient. For bcats, just make the hole bigger for more eye appeal.

If I specifically want a cat, I make it look like the pics they post of a badger catch, lol. If you have snow then I could understand why that probably wouldn’t work. Down here they check out anything obnoxious.
That spot he posted I’d take a garden rake and make a big ole scrape then drill a deep angled hole and make sure I threw dirt everywhere while doing it and then bed a trap and wait.

I have no idea what a cubby is supposed to represent but I highly doubt it is something for them to get in out of the weather.

All I know is what I have picked up reading here and watching videos on youtube wink
Clint Locklear seemed to have a very informative one?

After reading comments and looking at mine, it may be too tight and I may trim it up, for now I am letting it work.

Definitely can see in it from the flagging

I've never been one to not cover a trap completely. I know you don't have to with cats, but I always do and will.

It's really nice not to have to when ur dealing with wet ground and freezing temps. And it does give the cat a great target to put its foot on.

Nope, just a dead end with a trap on the open end in my case

My thought was to keep a dang coyote from messing up my bobcat set

I would welcome the cold but y'all can keep that white stuff and the ice up there. These nuts around here act plain stupid when it snows. I don't mind seeing them in the ditch but i don't need them wrecking me out laugh

I'll try to take some better pics of our cubbies.
We use sticks more than say foliage. I would get some of the sticks and branches laying around that area and build a little cubby that way, not open ended.
Ours are big enough to hide the bait and for the cat to walk partially into.
Shingles work good for pan covers without covering the trap with dirt. Wax dirt gets a lot of use on our sets though.

We have caught most of our bobcats from cubby sets, however this is Wyoming and snow.

Don't box in your cubbie so much , A lot of cat's won't enter one if they can't turn around , Leave the side open a bit more . [Linked Image]

Both of these cubbies are 8 or 10 years old . I just fix them up a bit each year

Have not caught a bobcat yet but game camera does not show any checking it out either.

I will take the trimmers today or tomorrow and open the hole up a bit when I check traps

I was worried about the CD spooking coyotes but had 3 different occasions with coyotes passing by. First one must have smelled me because it got close to set and bolted. Other 2 (possibly same one) were just cruising down the 2 track between the camera and set.
