I used some today at a bobcat set for the first time ever.

I got to reading that it sounds like it works pretty good.

I could be wrong but it doesn't seem to take much at a set whereas with other kinds of fish oil I tend to use more

Shellfish is good but it has a drawback of volatilizing quicker than fish oil (even when mixed) so for a lasting smell there might be better scents in your area......................................... the mike

Its synthethic. Its a real powerful and attractive smell. Tastes horrible and will turn off critters that taste it.

Yeah, use it as just an attractant, don’t pour or drip it over bait. Learned the hard way on coons in DP’s. I just use fish oil now.

Yeah it sure has a strong smell. I didn't put very much out at all. In fact I think the instructions on the bottle say like one or two drops. I thought it was odd when it came in a 1 oz container, but then I got to reading the instructions on the bottle. And I saw some old posts from The Beav saying it works good on Bobcat.

Started using Shellfish oil in the 80's. Absolutely the best scent I ever used for coon, BUT, it looses its punch exposed after 2-3 warm sunny days (like I said it volatizes rather quickly). I bought it by the quart/gallon containers and if I had any leftover at the end of the season, (stored in its glass container - regular lid) it was much less aromatic and stored 2 years it had no scent what so ever. So if you buy some IME, try to use it up w/i a year as fish oil holds its scent much longer in a container........................ the mike

I'm sure Wife has heard of this...done this before...mix a pint or so of shellfish oil into a gallon jug of quality fish oil for a kind of a "kicker." It is a killer on 'coon here...not sure about boats as we have so few here...just don't know.

True uncut shellfish will hold up. Having said that it is probably one of the most messed with ingredients out there. Vegetable oil along with other things are popular diluting tricks. Especially when buying bulk amounts like pints and quarts I advise to know your source well.

I was using a killer coon bait made with cat food, fish oil, honey, and red fox urine. I started making it with shellfish oil and it quit being a good bait. It never occurred to me that it could be the shellfish oil. I’ll go back to fish oil and see if it goes back to working.

I use it in fish oil for trailing sent. I don’t use it in the bait. I let the bait work by itself.

Evidently every batch of shellfish oil I have been buying ( from 1982 -2012) has been "messed with" as i can't seem to keep it 'holding up" so I am not getting what the manufacturer (not the dealers) are telling me. Do you have a reliable source ? ................. the mike

It works good on bobcat, mink, and coons. Its killer on otters where I trap. Sometimes I use shrimp and crawfish shells in a pocket set and use the shellfish oil as an attractant on a stick above the hole. This year I actually caught a bobcat in one of these pocket sets.

I always find it funny when it's suggested to add 1oz of shellfish oil to a pint of fish oil to "spike it". If you are using pure uncut shellfish oil even 1/2 of the bottle is more than enough to boost a pint of fish oil.

There are those that like to cut pure products for the sake of more profit. I have seen it over the years when I began my journey as a formulator. I can't speak of the quality of any product for sure until I have it in hand and under my nose.

It took me SOOO many years to find pure uncut ingredients. If you don't work with good ingredients, you will find it a challenge to develop what you are seeking. Some never know what they truly are. They can also vary in color and odor from one producer to another even in the supposedly pure state.

Then once you find them it will put you back to the beginning to start over again. It can be very frustrating for those who have gone through this or are currently experiencing this situation.
