Before we had this modern version of diesel there were two grades. #1 and #2. In cold weather I used #1 and added about 2% unleaded gas and power service. The gas and a shot of ether helped it start easier when cold. Dont add gas or use ether much any more but power service AHEAD of time sure works. Changing a froze filter on the side of the road when its -14 below and windy is no fun. I still fill the filters with ATF instead of diesel to keep injectors clean too. Froze up on the side of the road fill the NEW filter with whatever anti gel you have with you. If you freeze up while driving its going to be the water separator filter if you treated your fuel properly AHEAD of time. None of that stuff keeps water condensation from occurring inside your tanks or allows it to burn with the fuel. In the winter don't wait to change fuel filters. Do it often. BEFORE you lose power. Last several years I been using HOWES fuel treatment. That works as good as power service.
Quoting just because this needs read again.
Our fuel supplier treats with power service artic when filling tanks in the winter, the only complaints we've had are from people who haven't recently serviced their fuel filters. Power service kleen is good stuff if you have a lot of water in your fuel.
The last zero degree cold spell we had the county road crew's bulk fuel gelled up and they were pulling fuel out of our pumps at the station. I think their fuel conditioner company may have got fired after that.
