Game department mails you one if you want one otherwise no requirement for a tag.

Yes, but not if you send it to a taxidermist. I always get a CITES tag just to be safe, they're free.

From what I have seen some states hand them out like it is a piece of candy and other states act like you have done something illegal to need one. No taxidermist would take one here without a tag.

That is correct, bud. Which goes back to the original comment, that you can tell the commie states that don’t understand or believe in the No American model of wildlife management. All they see is an opportunity to impose another tax, which we all know is unneeded, especially at this point in time!

Edit, on your point of wildlife not requiring a tag, the states all have different opinions. As you stated, that was the intent, but most states used that tag as a way to control, in some cases, over control the take. Just a side bit I wanted to add.
