These days all you hear is teacher strikes, wokeism, gender change, shootings, and classroom fights. Do kids learn anything of basic subjects anymore? I think we are bringing a generation up that don't learn much in schools at all.

So, its up to you to teach them basics if they go to public svhool.

I remember far more of what my parents and grandparents taught me than what I remember from teachers. Maybe we have a parenting problem, not a kid problem? That's for sure. I have two sisters that taught school and the parents tied their hands more than our district did. I wouldn't send a kid to public school today unless I checked it out closely. Even in our county which votes in the 85% range for republicans, our grandkids told us their teachers were telling them how Trump was evil. They are now home schooled and can read a clock now.

My thirteen year old son went to our local public school. He can read time off analog clocks and write or read in cursive. We make learning in school a priority at home and he does what he needs to do in class. If you send your kid to school and do not make learning a priority at home, you may not get the results you want. Just make sure you sit down for a few minutes and go through their handed back work and their assignments that they are working on each day. Assign their chores and rewards based on their efforts. That has been our plan anyhow.
I have never seen anything that I thought was improper in his schoolwork. His teachers have been capable in my opinion. I am impressed at how difficult his math class was in 8th grade. He is good with algebra but had to really work to get a good grade. I do have to make him read some more books. The school doesn’t assign many to read and that is my only real complaint. I make sure we discuss the books when we are driving to deer camp or trapping….

Here's my take as someone who has been in public school within the last 10 years.
Sheltering your kids with home schooling and private schooling does not protect them from their own decisions or the world. It just prolongs it and leaves them more unprepared for when the time comes
Your kids have to make their own way in this world. Make their own decisions
Just because you send them to private school, or even a faith based school, does not mean they will turn out like you planned
It is up to YOU to instill the correct values in your child, or someone else will
Your kid is going to get out of school at some point. If they continue on to college you can best bet their beliefs will be challenged. If they continue on to work their beliefs will be challenged.
You cannot protect them from flaming liberals and people with an agenda their whole life. By pulling them away from these things you are asking for trouble down the road
Send your kids to public school and teach them values and morals at home. They will carry that with them the rest of their life. School is a small portion of their overall life. Don't hide them from the world and toss them out at 18 expecting them to be A okay
Gotta live up to the nickname...

Don't hide them from the world and toss them out at 18 expecting them to be A okay Everything you said is based on flawed reasoning. Everything. Really, does anyone think you can "Shelter or protect" your kids in this day and age? Nonsense. Come on man. If you want a quality education, much better than you can get in any public school, private schooling is better with very few exceptions. You definitely get what you pay for. Plus if you send them to a christian school, your beliefs are not challenged every day, they are supported. When they go out on their own, they have a much better foundation to fight the onslaught that the world will throw at them, both when they are in school and once they are out. I can't say enough good about homeschooling. Teach them the important things, teach them as they show you what they want to learn, and watch them thrive much better than they can in an environment where they are chained to a desk and treated like a herd of cattle as everyone is taught the same way despite the fact that everyone learns differently. The smaller class sizes and individual attention a child gets in a private school can make a gigantic difference in how well they thrive in education. The only ones who really think public schools are better are the ones like you who have no experience with the alternatives. I don't have the time to debunk all your assertions one by one, but they are ALL based on flawed reasoning.

Bernie, my best friend, the best man in my wedding went to a private Christian academy from K-12. I have much more experience with the alternatives than you may think. The church I attended most of my youth ran that school. I am very familiar with the type of students they produce, along with homeschooling and other private schools that aren't faith based.
For what it's worth, I went to public school K-12
Got an academic scholarship worth $150k to pay for most of my undergrad studies as an engineering major. Went on to get my masters in Civil Engineering from NC State
I won't let people tell me you can't get an education in public school. Without good parents that care, maybe. But I learned my values and morals at home, not at school. When parents rely on the school to teach life lessons and values they have made a critical error. Many parents sending their kids to private academies make that very error

There is a spectrum of weirdness, but all of them have been on it. Some are flat out WEIRD.

I get your drift hippie. I would rather my kids get that "education" while they are at home and under my direction than when they are at college making their own decisions
You and I both know they're going to get that "education" at some point
