In spite of the impending doom of being a purple state local DAs over most of the state are pretty good at common sense and aren't prone to drag good folks into court for political reasons. But you are correct the potential for pulling trigger could be far worse than killing something that needed killing.

If you live in Atlanta, Savanah, Athens or Columbus though you better hope there's not a disparity of melanin involved.

MS has Castle Doctrine. Most times those shooting someone that can even remotely be considered self defense never even get charged.

there are always a few caveats

the reasonable belief of death or great bodily harm is always required.

you need to be in a place you are supposed to be meaning you wave your right if you are in the commission of a crime.

you can't be the instigator , meaning you can't go picking a fight to get some one to come at you so you draw and shoot them

You may now "stand your ground" in these locations. With Castle Doctrine, when someone uses force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm (such as shooting another person) in the course of defending themselves they have civil immunity from prosecution. This is known as "stand your ground" protection. It presumes the person is otherwise not breaking the law themselves and believes they were in reasonable fear of imminent death or great bodily harm when someone unlawfully and forcibly entered their dwelling, motor vehicle or place of business.

Translation: you no longer have to wait until that 3 A.M. bedroom intruder puts a knife at your throat before employing deadly force to stop the threat.

It is important to understand what Castle Doctrine does not do. It does not allow a person to use lethal force against an invited dinner guest who remarks that your wife's meatloaf is overdone, or that your beer is too warm. Stand your ground, castle and make my day here is my recollection. You have to meet elements and there are exceptions. I haven't followed every development because if someone is trying to kill or hurt you, my personal philosophy is that I should shoot them. More than once.

Not this state, if you shoot someone in self defense here, you can be sure you will be charged with manslaughter at a minimum. If your defense lawyer sucks, you will be charged with murder. Probly have a better chance with two bullet holes and an ambulance than a gun and jury here.

I have a strange feeling that DeWine passed the Constitutional law for a set up.
No permit to conceal carry in Ohio.
Seen at least three road rage shootings in the last couple of weeks.
Not going into any details .

I think here in Maryland we have to retreat to the furthest point from the threat first.

here in ks you can even defend property to the point thats reasonable. i think it was written that way so a jury would decide in lethal force over property.

Susan Lorincz just found out that the "Castle Doctrine" and "Stand Your Ground" don't apply if your community, in this case Ocala, Florida, is trying to avoid being looted and burnt to the ground.

Kentucky has castle doctrine, stand your ground, no permit needed to carry concealed & can own all the class 3 stuff.

I have insurance, there are tons of lowlife lawyers who will sue the shoes off you. You can get away with shooting someone if you do it in Sante Fe on a movie set! I have been told at a concealed carry class to retreat even in your own home, so I bought insurance!

I think it's still on the books here I know walker put it on.

Or a tractor with a front loader / backhoe to make holes in the ground.

Here in MN, it's best to avoid shooting someone regardless of the circumstances because liberal MN is notorious for letting the guilty go unpunished and the innocent get punished.

I know we've had the castle doctrine for years. I remember many years ago here, a guy shooting another off his porch...through the screen door and nothing happened to him.

Our stand your ground is newer tho and I can't recall anyone using it, so who knows how good it is?

Guess it’s all in where you live in your State. I’d deal with the Sheriff if I had to defend myself and would probably get a steak dinner afterwards.

Leftlane. So LEOs on here want like me saying this. BUT. When a officer is involved in a fatal shooting. Most of the time. The FOP or city or county of that officer will INSIST that that officer take 24 to 48 hrs to make a official statement. Why is that a union thing? I have been told it lets the officer calm down and make a better statement ? WHY would the victim not want to do the same???
